According to a patient that I spoke to at the Maternity Ward, who came to deliver her first child, the patients in her condition are all being referred to access Labour Ward services at the Lewanika General Hospital located near the Mongu business district due to the recent lack of running water at the Liyoyelo Clinic. Moreover, recently, all expectant mothers were asked to wash up at a near by stream a few meters away from the clinic after delivery. However, this practice has since been abandoned in preference for referral to the next health facility — in this case Lewanika General Hospital. This development has also increased the distance travelled to access Maternal Health Care Services. Apart from delivery, all other Maternal Health Services are still being provided at Liyoyelo Health Centre. Chibolya Clinic is situated at the centre of high and partly low cost residential area of Luanshya, with a population of close to 20 000 households. Being in an urban setting, this facility caters for between 180 to 200 patients daily. This has become a big challenge between seven and ten workers out of the total number of fifteen, of which only three are qualified nurses. This has become a problem to patients who go to the facility as early as 06.00 AM only to go back home around 12.00 PM. 2 1 1 1 0 2 1 5 1 2 4 1 4 2 3 2 0 3 4 0 Eugene Nyambe Organisation: HAI Eugene Nyambe Zambia 02 April 2012 Ronald Mpande Zambia 03 April 2012
