BLOCK ASSEMBLY PROJECT USES PRECISE 1/4” SEAMS. TEST YOUR SEAM ALLOWANCE BY CUTTING (2) 2-1/2” X 5” RECTANGLES. STITCH THEM TOGETHER ALONG THE 5” LENGTH. AT THE MIDPOINT, MEASURE ACROSS THE UNIT. IT SHOULD BE EXACTLY 4-1/2’ WIDE. IF NOT, ADJUST YOUR SEAM ALLOWANCE AND REPEAT.

BORDER ASSEMBLY MEASURE WIDTH AND LENGTH OF THE QUILT TOP TO ENSURE B AND I BORDER SIZES, BELOW ARE OUR CUTTING SIZES.(3) 12-1/2” x WOF strips,

sub-cut (8) 12-1/2” squares.

(6) 6-1/2” x WOF strips, sub-cut (32) 6-1/2” squares.(3) 5-1/4” x WOF strips, sub-cut (21) 5-1/4” squares. Cut squares across both diagonals to make (84) triangles.(8) 2-1/2” x WOF strips.*

FINISHING Cut batting and backing 3” larger than top on all sides. Layer backing, batting and top together and baste or pin. When quilting is completed, trim excess batting and backing. Bind as usual.

Block 11. Place (1) B 6-1/2” square on the top left corner of (1) A 12-1/2” square, right sides together. Sew across the diagonal of the smaller square. Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle 1/4" away from the sewn seam. Repeat to add (1) B 6 ½” square to each corner of the square.

2. Repeat Step 1 to make (8) AB Blocks total.

3. Repeat Steps 1-2 using (32) C 4-1/2” squares and (8) AB Blocks to make (1) Block 1 square. Repeat to make (8) Block 1 squares total. Square up to 12-1/2”.

Block 24. Place (1) C 4-7/8” square on top of (1) G 4-7/8” square, right sides together. Draw a line across the diagonal of the top square. Sew 1/4” away from each side of the drawn diagonal line. Cut the two squares apart on the drawn diagonal line to make (2) CG Units. Trim the CG Units to measure 4-1/2” square. Repeat to make (84) CG Units total.

5. Sew (1) B triangle, (1) E triangle and (2) F triangles together to make (1) BEF Unit. Repeat to make (84) BEF Units total. Square up to 4-1/2”.

6. Sew (4) CG Units, (4) BEF Units and (1) D 4-1/2” square together to make (1) Block 2 square. Repeat to make (21) Block 2 squares total.Square up to 12-1/2”.

make 21Quilt Assembly(See Quilt Diagram on back page.)7. Sew together (4) Block 1 squares and (5) Block 2 squares to make the Center Block.

8. Center (1) H 6-1/2” x 50” strip on one side of the Center Block and pin in place. Start sewing the strip a 1/4" from the top edge of the center block and stop a 1/4" from the bottom edge. DO NOT TRIM THE EXCESS. Repeat with the opposite side.

9. Sew (1) H 6-1/2” x 50” strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block, making sure to stop and start 1/4" away from each end of the Center Block. To miter each corner, fold the Center Block on a diagonal, wrong side together. This should line up the strips from adjacent sides.

10. Starting at the sewn seam (represented by the arrow), draw a 45-degree line to the edge of the fabric. Sew on the drawn line. Trim the excess fabric leaving a 1/4” seam. Repeat this step with the remaining corners to make the center square.

11. Refer to the Quilt Diagram to sew together the Center Block, (4) Block 1 squares and (16) Block 2 squares.

12. Sew (1) B 2-1/2” x (72-1/2”) strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew (1) B 2-1/2” x (76-1/2”) strips to the top and bottom of quilt top.

13. Sew (1) I 5-1/2” x (76-1/2”) strip to each sides of the quilt top. Sew (1) I 5-1/2” x (86-1/2”) strip to the top and bottom of quilt top.
