Sally/Counter Fundamentals

• Sell the rocket motion fake

• Motion back should keep eye contact with the QB and show his hands

• Ball carrier needs to keep his pad level down. (Jab – Open – Go)

• QB needs to protect the ball and keep hips down

Page 3: Counters and Sally's, Powers

Blocking Rules (Power)• Double team 1st down lineman past the center

• The covered lineman in the double team is responsible for the run through linebacker

• The lineman uncovered in the double team NEVER comes off unless the D-Lineman to be double teamed slants inside

• FB kicks the 1st defender outside the play side OT. FB leads with his inside foot . aiming point is the inside hip of the play side OT

• Backside guard blocks backside “B” gap. Backside tackle pulls through the hole for 1st backer when running rocket counter. Backside guard pulls through on jet or no-mo power.

• TE rules = Gap, Down, Backer. Influence vs. 4-4.

It is a much better play when run North and South / Good Square Cut by RB.

Formations!!!

Run strong out of unbalanced vs. 8 man fronts

Use “W” ice out of unbalanced vs. 4-3 teams who adjust with safeties

Mid-line Sally Blocking Rules

• Play side Lineman = Short Pass set and “sort out” defenders to your outside gap

• Center – Double Team A-Gap Down Lineman to Backside LB. (Always Block Nose.)

• Backside guard and tackle block solid. NO PENETRATION ! This looks like Rocket Toss to Defense.

• Fullback – Slide step and lead through hole for 1st defender/Backer
