CLEANER AIRThe government has recently announced some plans which theyshould help to protect the environment. Firstly, the tax systemcould be changed, so that anyone who drives a big car whichconsumes a lot of the petrol will pay more taxes than people whodrive smaller cars. In an addition, company car parks maybe taxed so that companies who will encourage their employeesto travel to work by the train or bus. There will also be moneyavailable to build more cycle tracks, which allow people to cyclesafely, and reducing the need for so many car journeys. Lastly, the government wants to reduce down the number of heavylorries on the roads and they persuade manufacturers touse a rail transport instead. These ideas are good, but they donot go far enough. Too many people live so far away from theplace where they have work or study that they cannot beexpected to walk or cycle to there regularly. Fewmodernfactories are so unpleasant to live near that they must be far awayfrom houses. If small factories and offices were closer to people'shomes, we would save money and reduce pollution.
