SPRING JUNIOR MEETINGS:
Counselors will be meeting with students to review UC/CSU and private college eligibility, gap year opportunities, SAT/ACT information and more. Counselors will be hosting drop in Tutorials for follow up questions starting in March. Start preparing your list of questions now. Spring will be an exciting time to start thinking about interests you would like to pursue after high school and we have a host of resources to assist you! Counselors will email students and parents directly regarding their meeting times (either individual or group meetings) for spring semester. We will be hosting group parent informational events so please look for details in January.

SENIOR SPRING FOCUS:Spring is an exciting time for seniors. A few of the things to keep in mind for spring planning:
FAFSA forms for colleges & Cal Grants
Housing forms and college acceptance deadlines
Maintain high level of effort and focus
Explore GAP year possibilities if not college bound
Explore scholarship opportunities
Maintain balance with academic, extra-curricular and personal responsibilities
Spend some quality time with your family before you venture into adulthood
STUDENT SUPPORT:
Your student’s teacher is the very best source of information on student progress, work product and grades. Please contact her/him directly with specific questions.
After School Homework Club: Room 126, Mon/Thur, 3:30 – 4:45 pm. Staffed by Richard Marshall, Drake Math Teacher. All students are welcome. Computers available.
The Drake Library is open daily until 4 pm. All students welcome. Computers available.
Peer Tutoring Center is up and running. A fantastic group of students who are well-versed in all subject areas are ready and willing to support students on W/F during Tutorial in Room 106. Referral forms available in the counseling office.
ROCK & TREK programs are staffed with Peer Mentors who are available during class periods to support students in academics related to those specific programs. For more information, contact your students ROCK or TREK teacher directly.
Private tutors: there are a host of tutors in the area and you can LINK HERE for some.
If you have concerns about math or world language placement, please begin with your student’s math and/or world language teacher.

A major focus of Counselors in the spring is assisting sophomores with thoughtful course selection for junior/senior years. We stress AP courses in areas of interest or aptitude, with a focus on balancing other activities/responsibilities, for optimal success and joy.
Counselors will be available in Friday Tutorial for follow-up questions and concerns during February and March.

The Marin County Office of Education’s School to Career Internship Program provides an 8 week intensive career exploration opportunity requiring students to spend 6 hours per week on a worksite with a mentor.
Jacob Couture participated in a summer internship at Renaissance Entrepreneurship of Marin, where he had the opportunity to utilizing his creative and technical skills to develop an academic course which will inspire underprivileged students to consider starting their own businesses as a future career path.
Taylor Millar worked with Rushton-Chartock Architects in Fairfax. This internship provided Taylor with his own office where he learned computer aided design and other architectural design techniques. He also went into the field shadowing master architects on their job sites. This hands-on approach to learning has given both students a better understanding of the real world applications of their education.
The College & Career Center is abuzz with activity all year. Here are some of the events that take place in the spring:
