My Brother Knights and their families: I look forward to seeing you at our Annual Council Christmas Party on Saturday, December 2. Through our Keep Christ in Christmas Card Program, we will be selling cards at St. Pius X following all Masses on December 2 and 3. The cards will also be available for purchase at the Mater Dei Christmas Party on Saturday, December 2. Please remember that the COAL Drive ends December 8. This is an important source of revenue for the Council’s service and charitable activities. Let’s try to sell as many tickets as possible. Our annual Light Up for Christ will be held on Monday, December 18, following the Council meeting. Refreshments will be served. I wish all of you a Blessed Christmas and a happy and merry holiday season.

Thank you for your prayers and support.

Fraternally, Charlie Waldecker PS: Refer to the calendars and announcements for all our Council activities in future versions of The Observer. Also, please check your e-mails often for any last minute announcements and reminders.

Brother Knights:

PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT MESSAGE REGARDING A REQUEST FOR A CHALICE GUARD: A Fourth Degree knight is entitled to a Chalice Guard at their viewing before their funeral. My brother knights, I urge you to tell the person who will be responsible for your funeral that you would like a Chalice Guard. Also, please give this person my name and phone number. I will let your assembly know and let the members of Mater Dei Council know of the request. It is important that the notification be done as soon as possible after the death of the member. We will try to have our members at the viewing, but this becomes difficult when there is only one day of notification given. My phone number is 610-717-7554.

Billing for 2018 will begin in December. Happy December Birthday to the following Brother Knights: Happy 93rd Birthday to Salvator La Bricciosa Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !!

CONGRATULATIONS to our new MONSIGNOR KAUFMAN !!!

Father William C. Kaufman, pastor of St. Pius X Parish, along with 8 other priests, has been named monsignor by Pope Francis with the title Chaplain of His Holiness. Archbishop Charles Chaput received word of the papal honors on November 2 from Archbishop Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States. The honors will be conferred during a vespers service with the new monsignors, other priests, bishops and guests on Sunday, December 3, at 4 PM in the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul in Philadelphia. All the priests studied at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, were ordained by Cardinal John Kroll, and have served in priestly ministry for more than 40 years. Father Kaufman, 43 years a priest, has served in several Philadelphia parishes, including as pastor of St. Richard in South Philadelphia before his current assignment at St. Pius X in 2012. He has been elected a dean (Deanery 8, South Philadelphia) and has been relied upon as a mentor to seminarians and young priests, and a confidant to older priests. Father Kaufman is well known for his ministry to the elderly and the poor in his parish assignments.
