What is a Cotutelle PhD Program?

Originated in France, hence the term Cotutelle (as in co-tutoring)

An agreement on joint supervision on the doctoral degree level

Candidates are enrolled at both institutions

Candidates receive a degree certificate from each of the institutions

Candidates are supposed to work in a high co-environmental atmosphere

Candidates are expected to comply with published policies of both universities.

Candidates’ Eligibility: PhD Coursework

Candidates are eligible to apply if:

They have taken the Comprehensive Exam

They have at least one published paper in recognized journals such as PubMed and ISI

Student’s proposal has been approved by TUMS and Overseas’ supervisors and

pre-defended at TUMS

They have their IELTS Score (above 6.5 , with each component above 6) or its equivalent in TOEFL iBT (above 92) or TOEFL CBT (above 237).

Candidates’ Eligibility: PhD by Research

Candidates are eligible to apply if:

They have passed 18 compulsory credits.

They have at least two published papers in recognized journals such as PubMed and ISI

Student’s proposal has been approved by TUMS and Overseas’ supervisors and

pre-defended at TUMS

They already have their IELTS Score (above 6.5 , with each component above 6)or its equivalent in TOEFL iBT (above 92) or TOEFL CBT (above 237).

Application Process: School’s Action

• TUMS Relevant School shoulddo a preliminary review ofthe applications and organizethe School committee to pre-select the applicants.

Application ProcessTUMS Relevant School should do apreliminary review of the applicationsand organize the School committee topre-select the applicants.

The school committee consists of:• Dean of the relevant School,• Vice-dean of International Affairs of the

relevant School,• Head of the relevant Department,• The potential supervisor and• One of the faculty members suggested

by the Dean of the School

Application Process• Pre-selected students should be introduced to Office of Vice-Chancellor for

Education.• The approved students can start the application process in the partner institutionIf there is ay scholarship available, the approved candidates will be ranked by the Final Approval Committee to receive scholarship. The Final Approval Committee consists of the representative directors of International Relations and Graduate Studies
