Technical High School of Limeira COTIL Established in the city of Limeira, 58 kilometers from the main Unicamp campus in Campinas, the Technical High School of Limeira - Cotil is a Technical School that has been maintained by the University since 1967. The institution trains future technical professionals during the day and at night. The programs are offered concurrently with high school education or separately, in the case of students attending other high schools or even high school graduates. The school also provides extension, development and technical specialization programs. Ranked among the best public high schools in the country in its area, Cotil offers technical programs in the fields of Construction, Nursing, Cartography and Geodesy, Information Technology, Mechanics and Quality Management. The skills of its faculty, as well as the continuous investments in the improvement and expansion of its classrooms and laboratories, and the continuous updating of its curriculum, are all reflected in the quality of teaching and learning. Cotil’s programs offers a significant number of extracurricular activities (technical visits to companies, lectures on the technical field, and professional counseling), giving the student a chance to enrich the knowledge obtained in class, contextualizing it in terms of the job market. Students and teachers are also involved in research production, and experiments are presented to visiting students at the annual science fair. The wide-ranging education provided by Cotil allows its alumni to safely enter the job market and/or the best universities in the country. The awards received by students in contests that assess knowledge in different science and education fields also mirror the high-quality training provided by Cotil. Because the courses regularly offered are free, admission involves a competitive selection process for the applicants. The development of the artistic potential of students is included in the training provided by Cotil. An example of this commitment is Cotil Arte, an artistic-cultural event that has been held since 1996 and that has become part of the calendar of official events of the city due to the quality of presentations and the event’s impact on the region of Limeira. Coordinated by the college's Department of Humanities, the event involves approximately 1,500 students in various modalities, with exhibition of studies on the college campus and presentations of musical compositions, sketches and music/cultural performances by finalists at the Municipal Theater of Limeira, where the best participants receive awards. The event plays an important educational role, whether in the development and improvement of artistic skills or in the incentive to research topics that complement the technical and academic training of the students, contributing to the consolidation of the values and skills advocated by the institution.
