IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE,

DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONENTIONS OF

REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?

QUESTION 1:

PEOPLE & COSTUME: SOPHIE, CAITLYN & AMBER

MODEL CHOICEWhilst considering the genre of my magazine I

ensured the choice of my models would reflect the look I wished to achieve. I chose Sophie as my first and main model as I believed she best portrayed the alternative look as she is a fan of alternative music herself and thus by default fit the style I was looking for. I then cast Amber and Caitlyn to be my secondary models as I felt this would give both my main task and ancillary task more dimension and stop it from looking more repetitive. To ensure I hit the genre of my magazine I chose costumes which best suited the alternative genre.

USESome of my choices of costume and people

uses real media conventions. For example, I chose someone who loved the alternative genre and would thus best represent it like a real magazine/billboard/website would do with a real artist. Another example is my choice in costume, by choosing something readers would wear I am making them aware of the magazine’s style before they buy it but also reaching my target audience at a more personal level so they can relate to the product and the model better than if it were an outfit they wouldn’t wear or couldn’t wear.

EXAMPLES

Checked shirts, curled hair and heavy eyeliner are shown in these images. These are all typical alternative styles.

CHALLENGEHowever, I also challenge real media

conventions. For example, I decided to choose a casual look for the images throughout the magazine which I have never seen before in a magazine as models tend to be exaggerated and eccentric in contrast to my models. However I did this purposely as again I feel this reaches my target audience at a more personal level and shows them what they are behind all the fancy make-up and clothes. Also eccentric clothing is something my target audience wouldn’t be interested in and thus wouldn’t affect them if it was present or not.
