HISTORICAL PERIOD

The play takes the original time period that the play was written in

ancient Greece and then turned into modern times.

The original play was written in approximately 492 BC by

Aeschylus and was one of the first extant drama in Western European

literature

Takes place in present day Italy

PRODUCTION STYLES

Clothing will reflect modern day times like it is outlined in the

setting.

The setting is a wedding, therefor the women will be wearing

gowns and men will be wearing suits

LYDIA

Since she is the middle ground between her two sisters, she will

have a very simple wedding dress that isn’t damaged to reflect her

balanced character.

She is the only bride to not kill her husband, therefor her dress

remains in tact the whole entire play.

THYONA

Huge feminist and plots the murder of all the husbands, therefore

has a wild dress to express her personality

Very damaged from the escape plan from the wedding.

Covered in blood later in the play.

OLYMPIA

Very prissy and feminine, but is a firm that women deserve true

love. Her dress will be a sweetheart neckline to embody this trait.

Polar opposite of Thyona therefore has a completely different

dress.

Very materialistic, a lot of embellishments will be on the dress.

Later the dress becomes blood stained from the murder.

BELLA/ ELEANOR

Traditional old Italian women apparel, a black poofy dress.

Dresses very wise and mature.

Mother to thirteen sons and wears a babushka to demonstrate her

old age.

Eleanor is the comic relief of the play, former puritan and keeps

the girls in check. Wears traditional guest attire to the wedding.

CONSTANTINE

Wears a sharp and masculine suit due to his misogynist personality

and harsh manner.

Constantine is chewing gum when he enters.

Eventually gets naked in the ending scenes.

The audience should be able to depict his power and dominance

over the group with his apparrel

OED

Wears a simple suit. He is not very bright and does not say very

much throughout the play.

He is not a very important character and therefore should not

distract from the more dominant characters.

He eventually removed his shirt.

NIKOS

Is a very loving man and wishes to be happily married to a woman.

The only groom that survives.

Wearing a sweet and simple but dynamic tuxedo to show his

importance throughout the play

PIERO/LEO

He is known as a mama’s boy and is very similar to his mother,

therefor is dressed in modern Italian attire.

Very casual and calm throughout dealing with the situation at hand

and very casually sips on an alcoholic drink.

Leo is another comic relief therefore has light and playful color

pallet in his clothing. Very intoxicated as well

GUILANO

Wears a half tuxedo half gown to display his queer sexuality.

Very flamboyant that can be displayed through colors that also

reflects his personality in the play
