Costume

We wanted to go for a naturalistic casual clothing costume. This would make the audience feel more comfortable and be able to engage in a real life setting. We used this effect because it is a thriller.

The main female character, wears black Airforce trainers, these trainers make the scene casual and appropriate to the target audience.

By wearing a scarf, it represents the weather and how this reflects on the characters emotions.

The use of a puffer jacket represents the casual naturalistic approach to the film.

By holding a water bottle, it represents her running away from danger, this could also be linked to the idea that she is wearing trainers.

Sophia is wearing a rucksack, it is floral and a pink colour. This represents her age and that she is a student.

The use of a ‘caution wet floor’ sign is another signifier that she could be running into danger.

The use of black jeans, reflects the idea of black connoting danger.

The dark gardening gloves represent danger and hiding his identity.

By also not showing the actors face, it shows that his identity is meant to be hidden.

There is minimal clothing shown in this shot. This disguises the identity and leaves the audience waiting for more as it one of the early shots.

By the killers hood being up, we usually associate this to danger and having a hidden identity.

By wearing a rucksack, it shows the idea that there could be dangerous tools or weapons in his bag.

The watch connotes the idea that he has somewhere to be.

He is wearing a black jacket that does not show a lot of skin this is to hide from the CCTV, as he is about to cause danger.

He is wearing dark trainers, this represents the idea if he has to run from authority.

Location

The windows are closed to make sure nobody see’s what he is doing, otherwise a person in authority may come to his house.

There is washing up liquid in the background, this can help clear up any evidence.

The location is dark, this connotes and danger and makes sure that nobody see’s what is going on.

We used a deserted train station, this represents the loneliness of all the characters and why they are on a dating website.

The setting is at a gloomy train station, the weather represents the darkness of the storyline.

The use of a train connotes the title of the film, ‘On The Line.’

The train station is deserted, the only moving thing around except for the train is a pigeon.

The platform is deserted as there is a pigeon walking across the screen, it will be very quiet as it walks across the whole frame.

The ‘I Love Mormon’ poster connotes that she is lonely and looking for love.

We chose an empty carriage to represent her loneliness.

The use of framing the red poles, connotes danger, as red is associated with fire. It also connotes love, she is looking for love.
