The vol-cano's active crater is oneof the largest in the world.Poás Volcano NationalPark protects a spectacularcloud forest that offerstempting trails that leadyou through the exoticflora of this unique environment. After thisexciting experience, we will head our way to LaPaz Waterfall Gardens. Guests will be amazedby the variety of climates and experiences thatWaterfall Gardens presents including bothCloud and Rain Forests. Five magnificentwaterfalls with nine viewing platforms allow vis-itors an up close and personal view of the fallsand the spectacular La Paz River. This tour alsoincludes a visit to the largest butterfly observa-tory in the world, where each guest will havethe opportunity to release a newly emergedbutterfly in the Hummingbird Garden. 3RD DAY • TABACON HOTMINERALSPRINGS & ARENAL VOLCANOAfter breakfast, morning at leisure or rent hors-es to further explore the area from the vantagepoint of the saddle. After lunch and later thisafternoon, we'll visit the most spectacular activevolcano in Costa Rica and the famous TabaconHot Springs Spa nestled at the base of mightyArenal with a view of the Volcano towering inthe background. Here, thermo-mineral springsflowing from Arenal run at a soothing 102 Fthrough a maze of pools, waterfalls and exotictropical gardens. On a clear day you may berewarded with a magnificent display of fire-works as Arenal launches plumes of smoke andfire high into the darkening sky. 4TH DAY • MONTEVERDEEarly in the morning travel between Arenal and

Monteverde via a crossing on the country’slargest man made lake, Lake Arenal. Once onthe other side, we continue with an adventur-ous drive up the mountain to reach the town ofMonteverde. 5TH DAY • MONTEVERDEBIOLOGICAL RESERVEAfter breakfast you will visitthe Monteverde BiologicalReserve, a cloud forest richin tropical flora and fauna. Thezoo was begun in 1983 when a smallgroup of Belizean animals, once used asmovie stars for natural history films, wereleft without financial support for theirmaintenance. As a result of this situation,their caretaker then changed her title tozoo director, and started a small zoo.Today, the zoo is home to more than ahundred species of native Belizean animalsincluding many endangered species.Continue to San Ignacio, hugging thebanks of the Macal River. Quaint shops,restaurants, inns and houses dot the sur-rounding hillside in this frontier-like town.After lunch tour to Xunantunich MayanRuin. This major ceremonial center islocated on a natural limestone ridge, pro-viding a panoramic view of the CayoDistrict. The largest pyramid, “ElCastillo”, has been partially excavated andexplored, and bears a remarkable stuccofrieze on the east side of the A-6 structure.Three carved stelae found at the site are ondisplay in the plaza. In the great Plaza,two mighty temples face each other whileroof combs of three more rise through thesurrounding forest. In the 50 square milearea are ruins and some 3,000 other struc-tures. 4TH DAY • PANAMA CANAL PARTIAL TRANSITAfter breakfast transfer tothe point of embarkation forthe Partial Canal Transit,(only available onSaturdays): We enter thecanal at the north end of theGailard cut, where theChagres River flows in tothe canal. The Gaillard Cut(also known as Culebra Cutbecause its curves resemble asnake) is one of the mainpoints of interest for visitorsbecause it was carvedthrough the ContinentalDivide and this section ofthe Canal is full of historyand geological value. Viewthe new Centennial Bridge

which crosses over the Canal. Next, we willenter Pedro Miguel Locks, which is one ofthe two sets of locks on the Pacific side, andhere the vessel is lowered 9 meters in onestep. You will then enter Miraflores Lake,which is a small artificial body of fresh waterthat separates Pedro Miguel from MirafloresLocks, the latter being the final set of locksbefore reaching the Pacific Ocean. Once inthe Pacific Ocean the vessel will sail to thebeautiful Flamenco Marina where passengersdisembark. On the way to Flamenco, you willpass under the Bridge of the Americas, andlater, you will be able to admire the Bay ofPanama and Panama City's splendorous sky-line.
