Bike Trekking & Mountain Biking

1) BIKE TREKKING – VOIDOKILIA BEACH

Easy level, suitable for all experience levels & families (minimum age: 2 years)

Directly from the hotel along the seaside we reach in a short bike ride the dream-like dune landscape around Voidokilia, voted one of the best beaches in the world (The Times). The juniper-covered sand-dune ecosystem is the only habitat in Europe of the intriguing African chameleon. There you will have time for a soak in the crystal clear water of the bay. You will enjoy also a great view over the beautiful Gialova lagoon. Welcome in paradise! 2) BIKE TREKKING – GIALOVA LAGOON

Medium level, medium fitness required, suitable also for families (minimum age: 8 years)

We start from the resort Bike Station and cycle on small tracks to Voidokilia beach, voted one of the best beaches in the world (The Times UK). On gravel roads and single paths we traverse the wetland of Gialova - home to 271 of the 442 recorded bird species in Greece. On the Golden Beach we have a short stop for swimming before we head on to a small fishing village of Gialova for a light lunch. Through vineyards, olive groves and orange plantations our way leads us back to the Navarino Dunes Resort. 3) BIKE TREKKING – METHONI (SOUTHERN COAST)


Starting high up in the backland of Messinia we glide all the way gently downhill trough traditional mountain villages and open fields towards the picturesque fishing village Foinikounda. During our whole ride we have the southern coast of Messinia with its protected islands Schiza and Sapientza in view. After a refreshing swim in the sea we visit the most iconic historical monument of the region: the Venetian castle of Methoni. With a meal in a local tavern or an ice cream on the beach we complete this half-day trip. 4) BIKE TREKKING – SUNSET (PROTI ISLAND)


In the afternoon our minivan brings us to a hidden village called Valta. We descend a winding road until we reach the picturesque fishing village of Marathopoli. Captian Giannis brings us with his traditional boat to the uninhabited islet of Proti. After a swim at the beautiful secluded beach we enjoy a small snack before the boat takes us around the island with breathtaking view at sunset. The highlights of your holidays in Messinia! 5) MOUNTAIN BIKING – KALAMARI WATERFALLS

Medium level, good fitness required (minimum age: 16 years)

This moderate mountain biking tour takes us through one of the most important wetlands of the Balkans into the verdant hills behind the small village of Gialova. After making our way through a dense forest, we reach the majestic Kalamari waterfall. In the village of Koryphasio we will enjoy a traditional Greek coffee before cycling back to the Navarino Outdoor Center. 6) MOUNTAIN BIKING – KING NESTOR

Advanced level, good fitness required (minimum age: 16 years)

Set out on tour from the resort, following narrow lanes through a lush valley with olive groves and a river lined with bamboo. After a steep ascent the tour reaches the hill with the palace of wise King Nestor, one of the prominent young leaders of the Trojan War. We pass through picturesque mountain villages where we will have a break for a coffee before descending through narrow canyons on trails and gravel roads back to the Navarino Dunes Resort. Hiking & Walking

1) HIKING TOUR – THE CASTLE OF PALEOKASTRO

Medium level, foot-sureness required, suitable for families (minimum age: 6 years)

Setting off from the Bay of Navarino, we walk on a small trail along the Gialova Lagoon until the unique sand dune landscape of Voidokilia appears. From here we climb a small path to the impressive Nestor’s Cave. Excavations by the University of Athens have uncovered Neolithic pottery dating to the 4th millennium BC. A steep mountain path leads from the cave up to Paleokastro, the 13th century Frankish citadel occupying a rocky promontory. The outside walls and towers are quite well preserved and the view from the fortress is stunning. A swim in the Sikia channel that separates the historic islet of Sfaktiria from the mainland makes this hiking tour perfect. 2) HIKING TOUR – POLYLIMNIO WATERFALLS Easy level, Foot-sureness required, suitable for families (minimum age: 6 years)

The bus takes us to the starting point for the hike to one of Messinia’s most popular natural highlight. As you make your way through lush green vegetation, crossing wooden bridges, you will find yourself in a landscape of waterfalls and crystal-clear pools. In all, there are 15 waterfalls and plunge pools where you can cool off in the turquoise water. The best excursion for your whole family on a hot summer day. 3) BIRD WATCHING TOUR – GIALOVA LAGOON

All levels, suitable for families (minimum age: 6 years)

Our bird watching trip starts at the interactive exhibition Natura Hall at Costa Navarino. After an introduction into the local fauna and flora a short bus transfer brings us to the information centre of the Hellenic Ornithological Society. Here we get a brief description of Gialova Lagoon, along with details about its historical background. To help you get the most out of the birdwatching tour, you will also be shown how best to use binoculars and which birds we might spot at this time of the year. Specific information will be provided about the flora, fauna, habitats and endangered species in the area. Thousands of migrating birds from 271 species, many rare, visit Gialova Lagoon each autumn for a final rest before making the long flight over the Mediterranean Sea and the Sahara Desert. 4) NORDIC WALKING – INTRODUCTORY COURSE

Easy level, suitable for Nordic Walking beginners (minimum age: 16 years)

Nordic Walking is the fastest growing fitness activity in the world. Suitable for all ages and stamina levels, it provides a total body workout with maximum health benefits. But it is also easy to learn, requires no special clothing and can be enjoyed anywhere. During our 1,5-hours Nordic Walking Introduction you will be introduced to this fun way to get or stay fit, including its history and physical benefits, equipment selection advice, plus easy-to-follow, step-by-step instruction in the proper pole walking technique that you can use for a lifetime. This is particularly important, as the technique must be learned correctly in order to yield the maximum fitness benefits. Tour profile: Distance 5km, duration of course approx 1,5hrs. Nordic Walking Tours are the perfect way to combine your morning fitness and experiencing the diverse landscape of Costa Navarino. All tours include a short warm-up, technical assistance by the instructor, stretching and cooling down exercises. Work on your Nordic Walking technique with specific exercises and drills to improve your performance. Get the maximum fitness benefits out of your daily Nordic walking.
