REALITY & NOT REALITY ALI HAMMOUD 09

BIOGRAPHY Born in Beirut in 1954, Ali showed a passion for art at an early age. His early

display of talent led to commissions to draw famous politicians, iconic religious figures such as saints

and later he had the opportunity to join the School of Fine Art in Beirut in 1970 at the age of

16. Working and studying, he promoted his art to, art collectors and art dealers. During this

period, Ali had a number of exhibitions and his love for travel plus his vision of the future lead to a

journey to England in the year 1975.

In his continuous longing to create, Ali applied and was accepted to the prestigious fine art schools

in England, Dunstable College of Fine Art. While in London, he met many mature and famous

artists such as David Hockney, and was moved by his ingenious ability to transmit his wild

imagination into paintings. Although influenced by Hockney, an early friendship with Basil Alkazzi

in Kuwait in 1982, was Ali’s’ principal inspiration. This was a break from abstract expressionism

to the process itself of painting freely. Ali was later recognized by Mr. Alkazzi who’s work now is in

many historic and famous museums all over the world.

In 1980 Ali graduated from Dunstable College of Arts which marked the beginning of his world traveling and

paintings. Ali feels that travelling is a necessity. Traveling feeds him creatively and provides answers to his inner

questions. Some locations made such an impression on his soul that he knows they shaped the direction of his work.
