A crown, sometimes called a “cap,” is a tooth-like coveringplaced over a carefully prepared existing tooth. In addition,they are used to accommodate the attachment of a fixed bridgewhen the tooth structure is damaged, cracked or broken.

A bridge is a custom-made replacement for a tooth or teethanchored to neighboring teeth. When a lost tooth is replacedwith a bridge, the teeth on either side of the missing one mustbe prepared as crowns to hold the replacement teeth in place.
