    President’s Message Sharon Smith

Happy birthday to the USA on July 4, and happy belated birthday to the first Corvette that rolled off the assembly line on June 30, 1953. Both are certainly excellent opportunities to celebrate the greatness of two impor-tant events. It’s time to bring out all your fourth of July decorations to decorate your Corvettes for the annual Santa Barbara Fourth of July Parade down State Street. While you are at it decorating your car, don’t forget to dress in your favorite red, white and blue patriotic finery for the day. BBQ will be at Frank and Barbara LoMonacos’ after the parade. Thanks Frank

and Barbara for offering the patio of your hacienda to our Corvette family once again. Another opportunity to dress up will be July 27 for those of us who have signed up for the Rock and Roll Din-ner at the Reagan Library. Fred and Anne Lopez have arranged for us to participate in a very memorable evening. Many of us were part of that generation that grew up with rock and roll. Ladies, do you have a poo-dle skirt, sweater set, saddle shoes, bobby sox, pony tail scarf, pearl necklace, or other vintage 50’s attire. If not, it’s time to shop the vintage stores to get in the groove for the party. Guys have it pretty easy with a white T-shirt, jeans, letterman’s jacket, and loafers. “See you there or be square!” It appears that Fred and I missed an awesome trip to the Redwoods with Ed Clerkin and group. We always love the redwoods, but I have been busy planning our personal trip to BC, Alberta, the Yukon, and Alaska and had to pass on this one. Ed, thanks for stepping up to organize and lead the run to the Redwoods. August will bring some “magic” to the club with a trip to the Magic Castle. Prepare to be entertained and amazed. Thanks to Peter Mackins for organizing this run for us. Thanks to all of you for your continued participation in club events, and thank you for your continued support of the club with your attendance at the general meetings held every month at Mesa Café & Bar. This venue is working out very well for us. The parking, food, and service are all continuing to meet with our expectations. Along with taking care of club administrative chores, the evening gives us an occasion to socialize with our Corvette friends. Just a reminder to keep our CCSB interest cards in your car for offering to potential club members that you might meet when you are driving around town. When you see a Corvette and/or its driver who is not already a member of CCSB, please introduce yourself and invite them to a club meeting.

Remember “without “u” there is no club”.

As usual we have some very enjoyable events in the next few months. Please see the list below and if you have not already signed up and can make the event contact the or-ganizer or send me an email or give me a call ([email protected] or 805-886-0814) July Events July 27 - Sunset Dinner Rock and Roll Celebration at the Ronald Reagan Museum in Simi Valley - Enjoy a fantastic evening of dining and dancing to rock and roll classics, with guest tribute performances by Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly and more. This is a sensational evening of live music while enjoying a buffet dinner filled with your classic favorite entrees, including tantalizing hors d'oeuvres. You can tour the

Ronald Reagan Museum from 6-8 PM and the spectacular Air Force One from 6-9 PM. The VIP package is $79.95/person (everything included) with preferred seating at a private table(s) and early check in. Fred and Anne went to the Tribute To Elvis Presley Summer Dinner last year and say it was fantastic. Please see the following web site for more information: http://www.reaganfoundation.org Fred asked to remind everyone on Friday 27 July there will be a drivers meeting at 2:50 PM at Bird Ref-uge, Montecito. Departure for RR Library will be promptly at 3 PM. Fred will be contacting all members go-ing, prior to the event with more details. August Events August 18 – The Magic Castle – Join other members of the club at the most unique dinner club in the world, at least that’s how they bill themselves. I have been to the Castle on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed with either the dinners or the show. There are three main performance rooms with shows going continuously from 7:00 until 12:00. In addition there are always a number of table magicians performing for small groups. Price for the dinner and the show is $83.23 per guest. Please see the following web site for more information: http://www.magiccastle.com/

For everyone going please bring a check for $83.23 per person to the next meeting. For people who are not at the July meeting please send the checks to me (Peter). I have guaranteed our tables with my CC. Please make the checks payable to Corvette Club Santa Barbara.

4th of July Santa Barbara Parade Barbara LoMonaco

It's that time of year again! Get your cars all ready because our club will again be participating in the 4th of July parade down State Street. We don't have exact information yet - no surprise there - except to say that the parade will be on Wednesday, July 4th and you should plan to line up around 11:30 AM. The staging location will be announced as soon as we know anything but the last few years our area has been on Micheltorena in the first block just west of State Street. This is a great opportunity to display your club flag so if you want to buy one, please contact Frank. Sorry, we are NOT allowed to throw candy to the kids so please don't bring any. After the parade there might be a car show at the lower end of State St. Please be sure to sign up, at the July meeting or email Barbara LoMonaco to let her know you will be participating. WATCH YOUR EMAIL FOR CURRENT UPDATES OF WHERE & WHEN ON THE 4TH. After the Parade and Car Show there will be a BBQ in the backyard at Frank and Barbara LoMonaco's house - drive in the yard and park on the lawn. We hope for a fabulous turnout again this year. We'll be having burgers and dogs and all of the fixings. Please be sure to BRING YOUR OWN DRINKS as no drinks will be provided. THE COST OF THIS EVENT IS $5.00 PER PERSON. There will be a sign up sheet passed around at the July meeting so you can sign up then and get all of the details. Barbara will be buying the food based on the number of people who sign up so remember... a reservation made is a reservation paid. This should be a fun day. If you will not be at the July meeting, please email Barbara at [email protected] - to let her know you will be coming.

THANK-YOU to the group that came to Gra-ham on Saturday, June 9, 2012. THANK-YOU for your participation. Nice support of Graham .. our Dealer and our club sponsor. We had a GREAT DAY. With the help of the Simi Valley Corvette

Club we had 50 Corvettes, 15 Camaros and several classic Chevys (including Ray Seider). Fun to see so many pretty cars in so many wonder-ful colors. Graham tantalized us all with the new 2013 Blade Silver Grand Sport (Bob is still lusting, no Father’s Day present from the kids). Inge did test the Grand Sport for comfort. We did get to share the vette life with oth-ers. Simi Valley brought may vettes and many fun members. Graham sup-

plied a buffet lunch, special cookies and prizes (ten $50 vouchers for parts or detailing). Sharing their treasured cars were LoManaco (2006, 1999, 1995, 1971 classic), Halverson (2012, 2004, 1995), our President Smith (2008, 1993), Emslie (1961 classic), Massett (1962 classic), Scherer (1970 classic), Bunn (2001), Lopez (2009), Hoyt (2008), Mackins (2007), the Merenbach-family (two), Perez (2001), Petersen (2000), Burgess (2003), Steel (2005), Markley (2000), Stallings (2009). Andrew Spitz blew in with his yellow C-5 ZO-6 to say good-bye with squealing tires on his way to Hawaii (shipping the supercharged vette for the new roads). Andrew did leave his mark .. a long line

of burned rubber in Gra-ham’s drive. Bye … We hope we can have this event again at Graham in the near future. THANK-YOU to all for your support of this successful event.

Avenue of the Giants Run Ed Clerkin

    Continued from front page

If you have never been to this winery in person, you should at least check out their website here: http://www.ferrari-carano.com/ The landscaping is incredible and the building resembles an Italian Villa. I had made reservations for wine tasting but I have to tell you that this is the first time no one was interested in wine tasting! Back up the coast on 101 to Eureka to our final hotel destination. We then walked less than a block to a new dinner house called “Shamus T-Bones” that overlooks the bay. The food was outstanding and we even had a chance to chat with the owner about the restaurant and his electronic gizmo that shoots lightning bolts into the ceiling – very cool entertainment.

DAY 3: We started the day with a drive to the Samoa Cookhouse & Mu-seum for an old fashioned family style breakfast and a tour through their small logging museum. As we started to leave, it started raining, and rain-ing and then raining some more. Next up was a drive up to the Lady Bird Johnson Grove which is right above Orick, CA. About 4-5 of us braved the wet weather and walked through the grove of redwoods, ferns and rhodo-dendrons. It’s a very different grove compared to the Avenue of the Giants groves. Once we were all saturated with water, we headed back to our cars and drove back to Eureka for lunch downtown. We also perused the many niche stores that were open with all sorts of sundry items for

sale. Items that all of you could use in your home like a pure redwood bakers rolling pin, a cast octopus table with a glass top, a perfectly balanced colored squares mobile or how about a stuffed lifelike dog with their red tongue hanging out. Back to the hotel, a brisk walk to Shamus T-Bones for dinner and then back to the hotel to collapse for the night.

DAY 4: Heading South on 101, we drove to our next destination Miranda Gardens Resort but not before a couple of detours. First, we stopped at Loleta Cheese Fac-tory to taste different cheeses and hear a short discussion of how they make cheese. We could even watch the process through plate glass windows overlooking the 3 giant cheese culture bins. Then, we discovered they had a really nice flower garden behind the side door of the factory – who woulda thunk? Next, we drove through the North end of Avenue of the Giants all the way down to Phillipsville to en-joy lunch at Riverwood Inn which is the last known roadside bar and grill on 101. A few hours later we departed for Garberville to check out the local town before head-ing back to Miranda Gardens Resort to check in and relax for a few hours. We then gathered up the group and headed over to Benbow Inn for dinner. We managed to

get a private room in the back of the res-taurant that overlooked the redwoods and back patio. Our waitress was outstanding and everyone looked fairly satiated after loading up on entrees, wine and dessert. Some of us had a little too much vino and a nasty overhang the next day – ugh!

DAY 5: The day would not be complete without driving through the Avenue of the Gi-ants so we headed up the road to the North end and onto 101. We then proceeded to Ferndale to check out the Victorian village and the downtown shops. We walked into the Art and Cultural Center building to discover past relics from the Kenetic Classic Art Race. It looks like a blast! We then departed to Fortuna to have lunch at the Eel River Brewery. Whew…go there on an empty stomach! Last but not least was a fun run across SR-36. Fortunately, the rain stopped the day before as this road is full of hair-pin corners and plenty of redwoods along the route. After about an hour of jostling back and forth in the vette on this road, we turned around at Mad River and headed back to 101 and our motel on the Avenue. Benbow Inn rounded out our 5 day trip with another outstanding dinner.

That’s it for now. Maybe in another 3 years we can do trip back up to this area!

Yes, that's how they spell it "Sho" and it's put on by the Arroyo Valley Car Club in the old village of Ar-royo Grande on Saturday, July 28, 2012. I used to show my 1957 Ford Retractable in this show for several years until I discovered that I had too many trophies and no where to store them.

Anyway, the plan is to drive up to Arroyo Grande from Santa Barbara around 9:00 AM, walk around and check out the cars and then have a lunch at a new restaurant called Rooster Creek located in the middle of old town AG. This is usually a well attended event with some nice qual-ity rods and roadsters from all over CA. Parking should not be a prob-lem but if the 2 lots are full, we can park at my home and walk down to the show. I am within a comfortable walking distance of Old Town Ar-royo Grande. I tentatively reserved a table for 14 at Rooster Creek for 12:30 PM *but I need a head count* for this run. If you are interested in this run, please email or call me directly as I will not be able to attend the July 5th CCSB General Meeting. If you plan to attend this event contact Ed right away—it has such a low sign-up that we may can-cel it as a club run since it is the morning after the Reagan Library.
