Dear Friends, Following Christ means to empty ourselves of all attachments. In the religious circles it is called radical following of Christ. A disciple is called to trust God as he follows his or her own vocation in any status of life. The God who calls the disciple will equip the same for the mission. A disciple who trusts in the Lord enjoys favors from God because he or she in guided by God. Jesus always trusted his Father for in everything. In fact he never did anything of his own but always what the Father told him to do. It is difficult to do the will of God, but always is the best thing to do in our life. Last week we celebrated the feast of our Parrish. It was great joy to see you all fully participating in the celebration, a vibrant and faithful community. It was also a great opportunity for us to witness and to evangelize in the Excelsior District of San Francisco. The many hundreds of people who saw us praying and walking together in a festive mood enabled them to think about God and their own faith whoever they might be. Thanks to each and everyone for your support and hard work toward the feast. The generosity of individuals and groups are very commendable in this regard. We are called to be one in love and service. Thank you very much!

Queridos amigos , Seguir a Cristo significa vaciarnos de todos los apegos. En los círculos religiosos se le llama seguimiento radical de Cristo. Un discípulo está llamado a confiar en Dios mientras sigue su vocación en cualquier estado de la vida. El Dios que llama al discípulo lo equipará para la misión. Un discípulo que confía en el señor disfruta los favores de Dios porque él o ella están guiados por Dios. Jesús siempre confió en su padre para todo. De hecho, nunca hizo nada propio, pero siempre lo que el padre le dice que haga. Aunque es difícil hacer la voluntad de Dios, pero siempre es lo mejor que podemos hacer en nuestra vida. La semana pasada celebramos la fiesta de nuestra parroquia. Fue una gran alegría verlos a todos participando plenamente en la celebración, una comunidad vibrante y fiel. También fue una gran oportunidad para nosotros para ser testigos y evangelizar el Distrito Excelsior de San Francisco. Los muchos cientos de personas que nos vieron orando y caminando juntos en un ambiente festivo les permitieron pensar en Dios y en su propia fe como quienesquiera que sean. Gracias a todos y a todos por su apoyo y arduo trabajo para la fiesta. La generosidad individual y grupos es muy loable en este sentido. Estamos llamados a ser uno en el amor y el servicio. ¡Muchas gracias!

Viaje hacia la salvación

Nuestro Evangelio este domingo traza el camino de Jesús hacia Jerusalén y sugiere cómo podemos conducirnos en nuestro propio viaje hacia la vida eterna. San Lucas dice que Jesús se volvió con determi-nación decidida hacia Jerusalén. El Padre pretende que el sufrimiento y la muerte de su Hijo divino ahora hecho hombre, se convierta en la señal más fuerte posible para los humanos del horror del pecado. Jesús lo sabe, pero está decidido a cumplir el plan de su Padre. Le espera un horrible destino, y él comenzará a predecirlo a sus discípulos. En nuestro propio viaje hacia la vida eterna, nosotros también queremos estar preparados para enfrentar cualquier obstáculo que se encuentre en nuestro camino. Con buena voluntad queremos aceptar el plan de Dios para nosotros. Jesús lo hizo, nosotros también debemos hacerlo. Mientras Jesús viaja, se acerca a Samaria, un gran distrito al norte de Jerusalén. Él envía agentes delante de él para preparar su camino. Una de esas delegaciones, Santiago y Juan, los Hijos del Trueno, se encuentran con el rechazo firme de Jesús, y quieren invocar una destrucción ardiente. Jesús les dice que no les importe. El pueblo está perdiendo su oportunidad, pero él ha venido a salvar, no a condenar. Del mismo modo, tres hombres se encuentran con Jesús en el camino. Uno de ellos ofrece unirse a Jesús. Jesús advierte que no tendrá lugar para descansar su cabeza. Se invita a una segunda perso-na a seguir, pero él quiere quedarse hasta que su padre muera. Jesús le dice que le piden que ayude a otros en el camino a la vida eterna: “Tú vas y procla-mas el Reino de Dios”. Se invita a una tercera persona, pero él quiere regresar y despedirse de su familia. Jesús está en un viaje urgente. Le dice a esta tercera persona que no se demore. "Ningún hombre que ponga su mano en el arado y mirando lo que ha dejado atrás es apto para el reino de Dios". Estas son oportunidades perdidas de estar cerca de Jesús y acompañarlo. Sin duda, nuestros problemas, aunque crueles, no serán como los suyos. ¿No es simplemente que Jesús en su humanidad desea estar acompañado, que su Sagrado Corazón cargado con los pecados de los seres humanos es consolado por quienes están dispuestos a aceptar el sufrimien-to como él lo hizo?

¡Aquí estoy, Señor Jesús!

Journey Toward Salvation

Our Gospel this Sunday traces the journey of Jesus toward Jerusalem and suggests how we might conduct ourselves in our own journey toward eternal life. [

St. Luke says that Jesus turned with resolute determination toward Jerusalem. The Father intends that the suffering and death of his Divine Son made man must become the strongest possible sign to humans of the horror of sin. Jesus knows this, but he is determined to fulfill the plan of his Father. A horrible fate awaits him, and he will begin to predict that to his disciples.

On our own journey toward eternal life we too want to be ready to confront any obstacle that lies in our way. With firm good will we want to accept God’s plan for us. Jesus did, so must we.

As Jesus travels, he approaches Samaria, a large district north of Jerusalem. He sends deputies ahead of him to prepare his way. One such delegation, James and John, Sons of Thunder, encounter stiff refusal of Jesus, and they want to call down fiery destruction. Jesus tells them to never mind. The village is missing its chance, but he has come to save, not condemn.

Similarly, three men meet Jesus on the way. One of them offers to join Jesus. Jesus warns that he will have no place to rest his head. A second person is invited to follow, but he wants to stay until his father dies. Jesus tells him that he is asked to help others on the way to eternal life: “You go and proclaim the Kingdom of God.” A third person is invited, but he wants to go back and say farewell to his family. Jesus is on an urgent journey. He tells this third person not to delay. “No man putting his hand to the plow and looking to what he has left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.”

These are missed chances to be close to Jesus and to accompany him. No doubt, our troubles, though cruel, will be nothing like his. Isn’t it simply that Jesus in his humanity wishes to be accompanied, that his Sacred Heart burdened with sins of humans is comforted by those willing to accept suffering as he did?

Here I am, Lord Jesus!

Ya ha comenzado. Tanto el programa de Primera Comunión como el de Confirmación es de dos años. Para inscribirse en la Comunión de primer año, los niños deben estar en segundo grado o más. Para la Confirmación del primer año - 7º grado hasta 2º año de secundaria. Habrá un cargo adicional de $ 20.00 por inscripción tardía, es decir, después de AGOSTO. READING 1 1 Kgs 19:16b, 19-21 The LORD said to Elijah: "You shall anoint Elisha, son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah, as prophet to succeed you." Elijah set out and came upon Elisha, son of Shaphat, as he was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen; he was following the twelfth. Elijah went over to him and threw his cloak over him. Elisha left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, "Please, let me kiss my father and mother goodbye, and I will follow you." Elijah answered, "Go back! Have I done anything to you?" Elisha left him, and taking the yoke of oxen, slaughtered them; he used the plowing equipment for fuel to boil their flesh, and gave it to his people to eat. Primera Lectura Reyes 19, 16b, 19-21 En aquellos tiempos, el Señor le dijo a Elías: "Unge a Eliseo, el hijo de Safat, originario de Abel-Mejolá, para que sea profeta en lugar tuyo". Elías partió luego y encontró a Eliseo, hijo de Safat, que estaba arando. Delante de él trabajaban doce yuntas de bueyes y él trabajaba con la última. Elías pasó junto a él y le echó encima su manto. Entonces Eliseo abandonó sus bueyes, corrió detrás de Elías y le dijo: "Déjame dar a mis padres el beso de despedida y te seguiré". Elías le contestó: "Ve y vuelve, porque bien sabes lo que ha hecho el Señor contigo". Se fue Eliseo, se llevó los dos bueyes de la yunta, los sacrificó, asó la carne en la hoguera que hizo con la madera del arado y la repartió a su gente para que se la comieran. Luego se levantó, siguió a Elías y se puso a su servicio. SALMO RESPONSORIAL 15 (CF, 5A) Enséñanos, Señor, el camino de la vida. Protégeme, Dios mío, pues eres mi refugio. SEGUNDA LECTURA GAL 5, 113-18

Hermanos: Cristo nos ha liberado para que seamos libres. Conserven, pues, la libertad y no se sometan de nuevo al yugo de la esclavitud. Su vocación, hermanos, es la libertad. Pero cuiden de no tomarla como pretexto para satisfacer su egoísmo; antes bien, háganse servidores los unos de los otros por amor. Porque toda la ley se resume en un solo precepto: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo. Pues si ustedes se muerden y devoran mutuamen-te, acabarán por destruirse. Los exhorto, pues, a que vivan de acuerdo con las exigencias del Espíritu; así no se dejarán arrastrar por el desorden egoísta del hombre. Otro le dijo: "Te seguiré, Señor; pero déjame primero despedirme de mi familia". Jesús le contestó: "El que empuña el arado y mira hacia atrás, no sirve para el Reino de Dios".
