SWEPT UP IN SAN ANTONE: The Missions sent 10 men to the plate and scored seven times in the third inning Tuesday night, churning toward an 8-4 victory and a series sweep of the Hooks before 6,196 at Wolff Stadium. Corpus Christi loaded the bases with no outs in the second, but had to settle for one run. Garrett Stubbs opened with a single against Padres lefty Christian Friedrich. Jack Mayfield doubled to left field and Ramon Laureano was hit by a pitch. Antonio Nunez then ripped an RBI single into right field. Frie-drich got a strikeout an two lineouts to end the rally. Jimmy Brasoban struck out the side in the third and Enyel De Los Santos retired the first nine men he faced. Trailing 8-1, the Hooks put two runners on to begin the seventh. Drew Ferguson went the other way, stroking an RBI single into right. With two away and the bases full, two more scored on a throwing error by third baseman Ty France. CC starter Josh James surrendered just one baserunner through the first two frames. A lead-off double and two walks but James in hot water in the third. Noah Pero drilled a two-run double to right-center. Jose Rondon and Franmil Reyes netted RBIs on a groundout and base hit, respectively. Alberth Martinez added a two-run triple off Riley Ferrell and Fernando Perez capped the frame with a sac fly. Two Sean Stutzman free passes set up San Antonio’s final marker in the sixth. Andrew Thome was the only Hooks hurler to escape unscathed, tossing a shutout eighth. Ferrell worked 2 2/3 frames while Stutzman pitched the sixth and seventh.

HONOR SQUAD: A contingent of 7 players will represent Corpus Christi at the 81st Texas League All -Star Game, slat-ed for Tuesday, June 27, at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, TX. C Garrett Stubbs, 1B Jon Singleton, 3B J.D. Davis and OF Drew Ferguson will start for the South. RHP Rogelio Armenteros and RHP Kyle Smith have been named to the team’s pitching staff. Jack Mayfield is listed as a reserve infielder. Davis was a 2016 South All-Star while Singleton picked up TL Mid and Postsea-son honors in 2012. Smith also repeats from his 2014 midseason selection. FRESNO BOUND: The Astros have promoted RHP Kyle Smith to Triple-A Fresno. Smith, named today to the Texas League South All-Star team, went 2-1 with a 2.33 ERA in 12 games (8 starts) for the Hooks. He held the opposition to a .221 batting average and 1 home run. Smith’s ERA currently ranks 4th in the Texas League. Smith, who held San Antonio to 3 singles Saturday night, has allowed only 3 earned runs in his last 8 assignments, spanning 40.0 frames. Since April 29, when this run began, the 24-year-old right-hander boasts the lowest ERA in the minor leagues at 0.68. Smith has struck out 38 against 7 walks and 25 hits (0 HR). GONE TO THE BIGS: This afternoon, Houston officially selected OF Derek Fisher to the Major League roster. Fisher who played in 102 games for the Hooks last season, is in the lineup tonight, batting 8th and playing left field. Fisher was hit-ting .335 with 42 runs, 19 doubles, 16 home runs, 45 RBIs and 13 steals in 60 assignments for Fresno. His 1.010 OPS ranks 9th in Minor League Baseball. Fisher is poised to become the 9th Corpus Christi alum to make his Major League debut this season, joining RHP Francis Mar-tes (starting tonight for HOU), LHP Josh Hader (MIL), OF Brett Phillips (MIL), LHP Reymin Guduan (HOU), IF Nolan Fontana (LAA), RHP Mike Hauschild (TEX), RHP Jordan Jankowski (HOU) & RHP Arcenio Leon (DET). When Fisher appears for the Astros, the Hooks will have “graduated” 99 players to the bigs in their 13-year history. ON A MISSION: San Antonio ’s sweep of the Hooks eliminated Corpus Christi from contention in the first-half race. The first-place Missions now lead Midland by 4 games with 6 to play. Any combination of San Antonio wins and RockHound losses total-ing 3, secures a postseason berth for the men from the Alamo City. This marks the first time in 3 years the Hooks failed to win the South’s first-half race. It also snaps Rodney Linares’ run of 4 consecutive first-half crowns. LOCKED IN: OF Jason Martin has authored 4 multi-hit performances in the last 7 games. During this stretch, Martin is bat-ting .430 w/ 7 runs, 3 doubles, 2 home runs and 6 RBIs.
Acquired by the Astros via a trade with the Brewers for INF Jonathan Villar in November 2015
