INTRODUCTION
What exactly is a workplace wellness program? Can you pass out a few newsletter, hide the ashtrays and call it a day? PROBABLY NOT!
Experts agree that piecemeal, uncoordinated measures aren’t likely to be effective – especially given that your true goal isn’t merely to start a program, it’s to transform your workplace culture into one that promote healthy living. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you need to start looking for places to build a gym and hold Pilates classes or fire employees that smoke.
This program will help you consider where your company should strike a balance, by discussing:
• Whether you’d like your program to focus on your least healthy employees or simply the majority of your employees;• How ambitious you’ll be in designing and ramping up your program;• Which health issues and behaviours your program will address• What ingredients (in terms of health screenings, education, activities, individual coaching or treatment, incentives, and
workplace support) you’ll stir into the mix, and• Whether to include family members of employees in your program.
Ultimately it will be up to you, as the employer, to examine your workforce’s needs and make appropriate program choices. That’s where the rest of the programs come in. activeXpress is dedicated to providing tools and strategies for making these important decisions. We will give you specific ideas on program components and will tailor the program to your workplace.
