DEVELOPING A SUPPLY NETWORK FOR LEADING CANADIAN BABY BRANDHelping leading Canadian baby-care product provider Simply Kids develop a full range of packaging and product solutions, and a supply network for their rapidly expanding brand.

Situation:Simply Kids is a leading provider of baby care products—most notably their diaper range, which has become the third largest in terms of market share in North America

The company experienced rapid growth in their diaper business, and leveraged this by expanding their product range to include items ranging from children’s clothing, to

baby food, to baby skin care products like shampoo, baby powder, and baby oil

They required outside expertise to assist them, not only in establishing a low-cost country-sourcing solution for their expanded product range, but also expertise in the development of appropriate packaging to meet both functional product requirements, and local regulatory requirements, as well as brand image They engaged Infinite Sum to deliver their expectations

Approach:A team from Infinite Sum packaging group worked closely with Simply Kids management—and their product team in Canada—over a period of several months, to design and scope out the packaging design requirements for the expanded product lines

Once the packaging designs were complete, the primary project responsibility transferred to Infinite Sum sourcing group, who conducted standard supplier search and selection processes in Asia, which ultimately resulted in the qualification and selection of an approved supplier network

Upon selection, Infinite Sum managed the development and integration of these suppliers into the Simply Kids supply chain, and are responsible for the ongoing management of the suppliers on behalf of Simply Kids

Results:A qualified supply network in Asia for Simply Kids that delivers all product packaging requirements on time, and exceeds cost objectives, managed by Infinite Sum


MANAGING A GLOBAL HEALTH AND BEAUTY SUPPLY NETWORKHelping personal care products company Paris Presents Inc. implement a new supply network in Asia and take over the ongoing management of their existing and newly developed Asia supply network.

Situation:A change in corporate strategy resulted in Paris Presents owners deciding to outsource the quality and supply management of their existing Asia sup-ply network of approximately 60 manufacturers and suppliers

The decision was also made to increase the supply network of some key personal care products to meet increasing capacity requirements, in additional to tar-geted cost savings Paris Presents chose Infinite Sum to outsource this project

Approach:Infinite Sum created a dedicated project team to take over the day-to-day management of the Asia supply network on the ground—primarily throughout China and India A local Infinite Sum team was also located in the US, at the Paris Presents corporate offices in Illinois, to ensure close collaboration with the relevant internal departments ongoing—most notably the new product development group, and purchasing

Over a period of months, with close collaboration from the Paris Presents supply management team, Infinite Sum teams in Asia integrated themselves into the more than 50 Asian suppliers, to ensure trust and under-standing of the current, long-standing relationship between suppliers and Paris Presents

In tandem with building trust and managing existing suppliers, a separate Infinite Sum sourcing team worked on qualifying and selecting new suppliers for key personal care-related products required by Paris Presents and their customers

Results:Developed a dedicated, outsourced Asia supply management and sourcing team, which worked as an ex-tension of Paris Presents, allowing them to focus on their core competency of sales and marketing


MANAGING AN ASIA SUPPLY NETWORK FOR COMMERCIAL PACKAGING

Helping leading American packaging dis-tributor “Commercial Packaging” estab-lish, grow and manage their manufacturing and supplier network in China, India and Vietnam.

Situation:Commercial Packaging, being one of the largest packaging distributors in North America, has a broad range of flexible pack-aging suppliers around the globe

Their supply network was growing in multiple countries, so they wished to outsource the ongoing devel-opment and management of their international supply network to an organization with a strong global presence on the ground in the packaging industry They chose Infinite Sum as their long-term partner

Approach:Infinite Sum’s team designed and implemented a robust supplier management quality system—for multiple packaging suppliers, in various countries—covering many different, flexible product categories The solution involved the permanent long-term presence of an on-the-ground Infinite Sum team, dedicated to managing and improving the client’s supply network on an ongoing basis

In addition, a customized version of our supplier management technology suite was installed, providing a web-based solution, and linking Commercial Packaging and their suppliers in one integrated solution

Results:Created an effective, flexible packaging supply management system that developed, tested and delivered products from numerous factories, and linked suppliers in various countries in Asia and Latin America The on-site technology solution supported the Infinite Sum team, and provided the client and their customers real-time access to their PO status, and associated quality performance


EXPANDING WAHL CLIPPER MANUFACTURING FOOTPRINT INTO VIETNAM

Helping Wahl Clipper company expand their global man-ufacturing footprint into Vietnam.

Situation:Due to growing capacity requirements and a wish to diver-sify risk of supply dependency from their own manufactur-ing facility in China, Wahl Clipper engaged Infinite Sum to conduct a detailed footprint study to determine the most

appropriate country for an additional manufacturing solution, as well as design and implement a project plan to best establish themselves in the chosen country

Approach:Infinite Sum conducted a detailed evaluation footprint study for Wahl taking into consideration predeter-mined and approved criteria The study concluded that Vietnam was the best option for Wahl Clipper to locate their new factory It was further determined that a Greenfield option rather than buying an existing building most suited Wahl Clipper specific needs Upon all of these conclusions, Infinite Sum established a localized project team from our Vietnam office to set up and manage a turnkey greenfield project plan including the development and management of the construction tender process, selection and manage-ment of the local architect firm in addition to the on-going project management throughout the construc-tion process to ensure all building and regulatory requirements were delivered as planned In parallel to the construction portion of the project, Infinite Sum managed all processes related to establishing Wahl Vietnam local business entity in addition to hiring a local country General Manager for the new company

Results:A turnkey project solution and management team that will deliver Wahl Clipper a customized turnkey devel-oped factory in HoChi Minh City, Vietnam, on time and within budget during 2015, and capable of meeting their growing capacity requirements by early 2016

IMPLEMENTING MANUFACTURING AND QUALITY SYSTEMS IN CHINA FOR MILLER COORS

Helping Miller Coors develop a manu-facturing process and quality system solution for an innovative product out-side their firms traditional expertise, that was to be produced in China.

Situation:Miller Coors were in the process of devel-oping their first home-draft beer dispens-

er unit that was to be produced in China As the delivery deadline drew near, Miller Coors recognized the need to engage outside support that could plug the gaps in expertise within their own team that came from the traditional bottling and canning of beer Due a combination of expertise in complicated manufacturing & assembly techniques in addition to on-the-ground china supplier development, Miller Coors engaged Infinite Sum to provide the solution they required

Approach:Infinite Sum were required to create a rapid response team to engage with Miller Coors and the selected China supplier The team was made up of consultants from USA, China, India and Europe with specific expertise in manufacturing process engineering, supplier quality systems development and packaging design and testing Due to the critical timing associated with the project, Infinite Sum were able to install a dedicated team at supplier location within a matter of days of being engaged by Miller Coors

Results:Created an effective China supply management system that developed, tested and delivered home draft dispensers from China to Miller Coors bottling plants in North America on-cost, on-quality and on-schedule



BUILDING EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT SOLUTIONS IN CHINA

Driving operational improvements at the Chinese manufacturing operation of an American multi-national, through the implementation of employee development programs and lean/six sigma initiatives.

Situation:Due to steadily-increasing labor tensions throughout China, our client—a major multi-national brand in the consumer goods market—took the initiative and proactively implemented a management and employee development program at their Ningbo, China operation

This was done in an effort to show the workforce—in excess of 2000 employees—that they were ahead of the curve in terms of ensuring a modern-day working environment which dealt with both shareholder objectives, and local employee welfare

Approach:Infinite Sum installed a project team that combined members from offices in the US, China and Europe The team worked very closely with the client’s North American corporate office, to ensure consistent solutions with their corporate values, in addition to encompassing the firm’s business objectives—both globally, and in China

Over a period of 18 months, the Infinite Sum team worked alongside the client’s North American and Chinese management teams to design and implement a solution for almost immediate turnaround—both in terms of business performance and culture—at their China operation

Due to the success of the employee development program, the project was expanded, and the local Chinese team began implementing lean/six sigma initiatives This step was deemed impossible prior to the initiation of the employee development program

Results:Significantly improved working environment at the client’s Chinese manufacturing location, which high-lighted improvements not only in terms employee satisfaction levels, but also in terms of increased quality performance, higher productivity and overall lower cost of production
