“Generation Why: Making Your New Workforce Work”Look on the front lines of your business. Standing between you and your profits are those talented, weird-looking, impossible-to-understand young employees. And if you’re not connecting with them, they are not connecting with your customers, and you are leaving all kinds of money on the table. In short, your front line is the key to your bottom line.

It’s no secret today’s workforce is significantly different than it used to be. Driving this change is a new breed of employee coming into the job market with a different set of attitudes, values, and expectations. No one has a better understanding of this new generation than Eric Chester.

He is the premier expert on Generation Why; in fact, he coined the term. Since 1986, Eric Chester has been speaking to, and working with Generation Why youth. He has personally addressed more than two million teenagers, co-authored eight books for teens, and is dialed-in to the mindset of this burgeoning generation. He frequently appears on national media (Good Morn-ing America, MSNBC, FoxNews, CNN, ABC News 20/20, etc.) and is interviewed in major publications (Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Workforce Magazine), to provide insight and perspective to business leaders and concerned adults.

Eric is the Founder & President of Generation Why, Inc., a training and consulting firm helping leading companies and organizations recruit, train, manage, motivate, and retain the very best of this new generation. He is also the Founder and CEO of The Bring Your A Game to Work initiative (The A Game, LLC): a work ethic training and certification program for youth built on the foundation of seven essential workplace values (Attitude, Attendance, Appearance, Ambition, Accountability, Acceptance, and Appreciation) that are prerequisites to success in any field, any job, and any industry. He is the sole author of two highly acclaimed business books: “Employing Generation Why - Understanding, Managing, and Motivating Your New Workforce” and “Getting Them to Give a Damn - How to Get Your Front Line to Care About Your Bottom Line.” His most recent title, “Bring Your ‘A Game’ to Work – Seven Values That Will Make Every Employer Want to Hire You and Fight to Keep You,” is the centerpiece of The A Game, showing teens what every employer wants and expects from them.

Facilities Usage FeeMany of you are aware that conference contracts must be

signed at least two years in advance to secure properties with appropriate meeting space, sleeping rooms, room rates, location and quality of service and accommodations. The contracts include a minimum commitment to the number of guest rooms, and falling short of the minimum room commitment results in an onerous attrition fee. Over the past few conferences, this attrition fee ranged from $30,000 to $80,000. Attaining the room night commitment also triggers the waiver of all of the meeting room fees.

AAMA would have incurred these exorbitant attrition fees, were it not for a subsequent negotiation option to book another conference at the same site within the next two years. While these sites may not have been the first choice of our Sites Committee, they are preferable to the payment of the excessive attrition fees, particularly in this economic environment.

The declining conference attendance not only dictated some of our future site selections, it has prompted exploring cost effective means for ensuring that as many attendees as possible stay on the conference property. We understand that many conference attendees seek the lowest hotel rate, sometimes staying off site and commuting to the conference each day. Those who choose to stay at offsite hotels receive the benefits of the conference facilities, yet do not contribute to the necessary commitments that allow AAMA to forego the cost of the common meeting space.

First and foremost, AAMA is seeking lower and more compet-itive room rates at mid-range properties that are in closer proximity to airports and/or public transportation. And secondly, a $200 facilities usage fee will be enacted for those who attend conferenc-es, but elect not to stay at the conference host hotel. This usage fee commenced at the 2010 Annual Conference and will continue for subsequent national conferences. Any number of nights reserved at the conference hotel qualifies for waiver of the facilities usage fee.

Discounted Registration Fees For Multiple Member AttendeesAre more than two employees planning to attend from your company? If so, these attendees may be eligible to receive a $75 refund on their AAMA registration fee.

For every two full-priced (early bird or regular rate) paid attendee registration, a $75 rebate will be issued on the 3rd full price paid registration for attendees from the same company. Rebates will be applied after the conference.

Rules & Eligibility• Program applies only to attendee registrations, not spouses/guests

or non-members.• Company must have three or more registrants attend the confer-

ence (cancellations are not included in arriving at this number).• Rebate will be issued to the applicable company representative(s)

after the conference.

Please note that this discount does not apply to non-members or spouses/guests.
