Cornerstone provides statistical techniques,

including DoE, regression, and multivariate

analysis. With a highly intuitive and inter-

active user interface, Cornerstone enables

engineers of multiple areas – i. e. teams

from manufacturing, research, develop-

ment, quality assurance, and educational

organizations – to fully exploit and apply

the potential of statistical data analysis.

The workmap concept gives an easy over-

view of the analysis workflow and allows

reuse for future data of same structure.

New dialogs, menus and functions are

possible with the Cornerstone Extension

Language (CEL). Also, Cornerstone allows

direct access to the R environment for

statistical computing and graphics. The

camLine real-time systems (LineWorks,

SPACE, XperiDesk, and InFrame Synpase

MES) are perfectly supplemented by Cor-

With Cornerstone, your analyzes are

always up to date. The consistent and in-

teractive linking of your data with subse-

quently derived graphs, analyses, results,

and reports is preserved, even when your

data changes or you switch to data sourc-

es of the same structure. You do not need

to program or execute any scripts. The

workmap is the script.

Cornerstone is particularly designed

to quickly sift and work through large

amounts of data. The computing power

provided will ensure that you can interac-

tively work with Cornerstone, efficiently.

In a wide range of applications, Corner-

stone will satisfy most engineers and

scientists needs. This does not require

Even without the application of a formal

statistical method, you already have mul-

tiple views on your data at the same time

For example, to visualize the context of

selected points, you simply touch them in

a graph with the brushing tool. The data

will be highlighted correspondingly in all

affected graphs and datasets.

Cornerstone covers the essentials of graphi-

cal data analysis.

Via clipboard and with standard file for-

mats, you can export your analyses results

into other graphic tools and software

applications.

Access to data sources – Cornerstone

provides direct, transparent access to data

stored in remote database sources that are

accessible via ODBC with open access to

SQL code. Spreadsheet formats like Ex-

cel can be read as well as ASCII files. An

automatic reread of data from its source

is supported. Any number of files of same

column structure can be read into a single

dataset simultaneously. Drag & Drop of

Cornerstone datasets and workmaps accel-

erate data acquisition.

Workmaps make your analysis process-

es reusable – As you analyze data with

Cornerstone, the workmap automatically

records each step of your analysis pro-

cess in the appropriate order. A workmap

contains all the individual analyses steps,

data and derived data, subsets, presentation

styles, tables, graphs, analyses objects, and

reports.

The workmap window shows all the in-

dividual components in the form of icons

linked by arrows. The arrows visualize the

data flow and the dependencies of datasets,

analyses, graphs, and the final reports.

Workmaps and their components can be

processed further. In general, they are

reusable, i. e. generically applicable. No

scripting language is necessary in Corner-

stone since this is an intrinsic function of

the workmap. Different Cornerstone files

can be merged into a single workmap.

Cornerstone’s core functions

The Design of Experiments (DoE) compo-

nent contains a step-by-step guide to suc-

cessfully perform designed experiments.

DoE supports advanced techniques like

constraints in design space, inclusion runs,

accessible candidate set for algorithmic

designs, methods to perform robustness

(Taguchi) or mixture designs.

The Regression component also covers

ANOVA methods and helps to model and

improve your process on study. No differ-

ence is made in handling DoE or historical

data. You create and refine models that

describe one or multiple responses as a

function of one or more either scaled or

categorical predictors. Cornerstone sup-

ports all features like arbitrary high order

expansion, stepwise regression, Box-Cox

transformation, residual analysis in an

unsurpassed compact workflow.

MANOVA offers analyses techniques to

compare groups based on multivariate

data. You can investigate, whether the

groups are different and how the differenc-

es are determined by the analyzed vari-

ables. Use MANOVA also for discriminant

analysis.

Principal Components Analysis is a tech-

nique for reducing the number of variables

needed to represent the dependencies in

your data. It is also a preliminary step for

regression analysis in case of correlated

predictors that otherwise cannot be ade-

quately analyzed (regression on principal

components). This direct combination of

both steps is supported.

The R-Integration gives you access to all

functions of the R environment for statisti-

cal computing and graphics.

interactively fit distribution models to your

data. Process capability indexes like Cp and

Cpk quantify the quality of your processes

to fulfill customers requirements.

Six Sigma & Kaizen – For these concepts of

process improvement the Cornerstone ap-

proach intentionally addresses the level of

engineers’ tasks. Its smart concept is clearly

results-oriented. It shortens both training
