Seeing the Father in Jesus—Part 1 Have you ever heard someone say, “whatever does she see in him?” People say that when they don’t like the person someone is dating. Or they even say that about someone’s spouse. But what does it mean to ask what a woman sees in a man? Or what a man sees in a woman? Well for one thing, it usually means that you can see the person’s character. You can see what’s in a person by what comes out of them. Jesus talked about this. He spoke about it when He was teaching about what defiles a person. Defile means to make worse, to bring down, to make a good person bad. To defile means to ruin, to cheapen, to destroy. And Jesus said that it’s not what you eat that does this to you. He said it’s what comes out of you. It is from the human heart that lies, hurtful language, hate, violence, conceit, pride and all sorts of other bad things come. And when these things come out of the heart, they come out of the person, either in the words they say or the things they do. It’s what comes out of a person that defiles him or her. And that is one way we can see in a person, by what comes out of that per-son. And so if you see or hear lies and hate coming out of a person, you have a pretty good idea about what that person’s character is like: that he or she is hateful and dishonest. And so if you were to see someone you knew dating that person, you might say, “whatever does she see in him? (Or her.) It might not be as bad as that. It could be that you don’t see anything particu-larly bad in a person. Someone might be nice and honest and friendly. And still, someone could say, “whatever does she see in him?” And someone might say that because they think that their friend, the one who is dating this man, or is married to him deserves someone who has much more to offer, something more than just nice-ness and honesty and friendliness. When people wonder what someone else sees in a person that they feel isn’t good enough for their friend, what is probably bothering them is that they do not see any future in that person. Being nice and honest and friendly are all good, but where will the relationship go? How will it grow? There needs to be something more, some potential for growth there. Otherwise, your friends might ask, “whatever do you see in him? Or her?” To be continued . . .

Sera contin-uado....

Pope Francis calls the church to be permanently in mission. He calls for everyone to be a missionary. We can participate in the mission through prayer; an hour of adoration.
This hour is a great and unrepeated opportunity for a young parent or grandparent to teach their tender lambs our faith and reverence to our most humble Majesty, The Good Shepherd Jesus. Please join us in just one hour of adoration a week out of nearly 124 weekly hours to choose from.
An adorer is needed for:
Tuesday 12:00 midnight—1:00 a.m.
Saturday 10:30 a.m.—11:30 a.m.
If you are able to help with this time, please call Veronica Fabro at (830)377-9117.
martes 12:00 media noche—1:00 a.m. sabado 10:30 a.m.—11:30 a.m.

BooksToBorrow from the Notre Dame Parish Library are available in
the narthex of the church, near the bell tower door.
Write your name and phone number on the card in
the back of the book; leave the card in the check-out
box, and enjoy the book at your own speed, then re-
turn it. To prepare for the season of the Holy An-
gels, Deborah Harris reports on All About Angels by Father Paul O’Sullivan, O.P. This book opens up a glorious world to its
readers that will give you much joy and happiness.
Angels are our best friends and we should have a
great love, trust, and devotion for these glorious
Princes of Heaven.
There are numerous books and pictures on
Saints but few on the angels. When we think of an-
gels, we see in our mind a picture of children fol-
lowed by their guardian angel. This book’s objective
is to make readers vividly aware of the presence of
these spirits who are at your sides forever. Here is a
list of chapters with a quick note about each.
Chapter 1 relates the more modern and authenticated
apparition of the guardian angel of Portugal in 1916
appearing to the children, Lucia, Francisco, and
Jacinta in Fatima multiple times.
Chapter 2 tells of angelic apparitions of saints in our
own days. Saint Gemma Galgani was canonized in
1940, and Saint John Bosco had many angelic inter-
ventions in saving his life from those who tried to
assassinate him.
Chapter 3 explains who the angels are, the generosity
of angels, what angels do, and about their intelli-
gence and power.
Chapter 4 answers where the angels are and how an-
gels assist at Mass.
Chapter 5 tells us when and where the angels were
created.
Chapter 6 speaks of the most important role our
guardian angel has.
Chapters 7 through14 cover how the angels in sacred
scripture helped Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego,
Abraham, Jacob, Elias, Daniel, Hagar, Judith, and
Peter and Paul. Then there are the archangels, and
accounts of angels in connection with martyrs and
how angels can help us.
Although this book is small, I hope that it
will increase your faith in and devotions to the
blessed angelic spirits who are eager to help us and
to lead us to our heavenly home.

Please join us Thursday, September 12th as
we begin a new year studying the Gospel of St. John.
John’s Gospel offers an “eagle’s eye” view of Jesus’ life. Not only is He clearly Priest, Prophet, and King, He is also the Eternal
Word, the Son of God. Meet the cast of the wedding at Cana, the Samaritan woman, the Adulteress, and Lazarus as they con-front who He really is. In addition, Jewish
feasts reveal the pivotal moments of Jesus’ life and mission as the Promised Messiah,
sent because “God so loved the world.”
Whether you are new or experienced in studying the bible, you will gain a deeper
understanding of Sacred Scripture! All you need is your bible and the Catechism of the Catholic
Church!
We meet every Thursday from 9:30am-12pm
from September through April upstairs in
Kemper Hall, Room 205. We do break for the
holidays from Thanksgiving through the New
Year. If you want additional information,
please call Julia Bradford at 281-748-4124 or
email at: [email protected].
Childcare may be available during the Bible
Study for ages 4 mos to 6 yrs. In order to insure
availability you must contact Nelda at the
YFM Office by no later than
Monday, Sept 9th.
