Accessor H ere's a great gift for the corkscrew collector. The Industrial and Mechanical Engineering Company of Paarl, South Africa has patented a design which combines a bottle cap lifter / cork remover with a belt. The two prongs of the cork extractor fit in a "pocket" in the back of the belt and the handle or cap lifter serves as the buckle on the genuine leather belt. The Accessor was patented by Christiaan T.B. Louw in March 2001. The prong puller is marked ACCESSOR PATENT 20012048. The Accessor™ is a patented design which combines a fashionable belt with a multi purpose functional bottle opener. It allows the user, whilst wearing the belt, to open bottled beverages. The Accessor™ also allows for the cork to be reinserted into the bottle once it has been opened. Apart from these uses, the Accessor's™ sharp prongs can also be used for the following purposes: as a self defence weapon. to open envelopes. as a scraping, piercing and levering device. The bottle cap opener and cork extractor prongs are joined to form the buckle. The buckle can easily be accessed by releasing it from the belt, without even having to remove the belt from around ones' waist.

Liftmaster U. S. Patent Corkscrew by Delisle Martha's Vineyard resident Bernard Delisle came up with an interesting play on the "waiter's friend" style corkscrew in his 1986 patent. Delisle pointed out that the waiter's friend had been around for almost 100 years, but the problem with the designs was that the worm can get "entangled with one's clothing when it is carried, for example, in the pocket." Delisle's answer to the problem was to form a case where the pivoting worm is attached to a sliding bar. When the pivoting neckstand is folded over the worm in the closed position, the two ends of the case slide together and the worm is protected. Delisle attached a convenient pocket clip to the case. The corkscrew is called the "Liftmaster and was be produced by the Devlan Company of Providence, Rhode Island. Delisle obtained United States Patent No. 4,574,663 with the help of the Barlow and Barlow legal firm on March 11, 1986. A corkscrew story from Don Bull: There was a closed antique shop in the Adirondack town of Westport, New York. It was part of The Inn on the Library Lawn. I went in the Inn and asked the proprietor if there were any corkscrews in the shop. His response was the usual "I had some but they were sold." And then he said "But I invented one." It was the Bernie who had invented his "Liftmaster" while living in New England, met with fair success and by 1993 was running a hotel in the boondocks. He found white and nickel plated examples for me.

PK212 Michael Levine is a third-generation restaurateur of Monty’s Steakhouse in Woodland Hills, California. Not only is he a talented chef but he is also an inventor. The elegant looking device looks like a double lever corkscrew. But Michael's invention is a bit different. Michael discovered a small problem in his restaurant, "suddenly the wine bottles were being produced with screw-tops instead of cork. My customers were unhappy with the presentation of a non-cork wine bottle, it just wasn't the same." So Michael came up with a solution - a screw-top remover that looks like a corkscrew for a traditional wine presentation. $75
