It’s World Book Day on April 23, kicking off Cork’s own celebration of all that’s great about books and readings. The Fest combines readings by world class writers in a variety of settings, with a cultural streetfair: book stalls, street arts, etc. Over the last eight years we have welcomed Paul Durcan, Claire Keegan, John Banville, Dermot Healy, Derek Mahon, Carol Ann Duffy, Greg Baxter, Moya Cannon and many others to Cork.

This year we have a first class line-up once again – we celebrate the life and work of Aidan Higgins, a giant of Irish and world literature, and welcome two wonderful young US poets Tracy K. Smith and Michael Dickman, selected for us by guest curator Paul Muldoon. To coincide with Ireland’s Presidency of the European Council, we feature writers from central and eastern Europe: Pawel Huelle, Drago Jan ar and Kirill Kobrin. On the Wednesday evening we remember Maeve Binchy, as writer and person, and showcase some of the exciting young writers published by Bradshaw Books, and there’s much, much more.

Readings and events are laid out day by day starting with Tuesday 23 April, and continuing until Saturday 27 April, the busiest day of the Fest. We hope to see you at the City Library, Triskel Christchurch and the Grand Parade during the Fest. Enjoy!
