Make Up Oaks

Safety Expectations Parent Meeting Questions

ESA'S Intrasquad Meet ESA'S Intrasquad MeetESA will have a couple of Intersquad Meets for our swimmers to get back to normal. The Groups will be split up into numbers where we can effectively social distance. The Gulf Swimming has decided that they will not Sanction meets for July; however, the gulf has provided a new service called Swimmingly. This service helps Club run a non-section competition. These times that the swimmers achieve will not "officially" count for USA Swimming Times. However, these times will count for swimmers to move-ups. Parents will not be allowed on deck; however, swimmingly has an app for you to keep up to date. That app is called Swimminglyfan. Dates July 25th - Age Group 3 4 and Junior Prep Intrasquad Meet August 1st - Senior and Junior Tri-Meet (Captions: Gabe Weikel / Ryan Russell / Cooper Willits) Time 6:00am - 9:00am Warm Up 6:00 - 6:45am Meet Start 7:00am Location 5702 Forest Timbers Drive Humble, Texas 77346 Events Coaches will choose the events for all swimmers. Parents will need to sign up on the ESA website, and it will be posted on Tuesday. 9-12 Events will be all 50 Strokes and 100 IM 13 and Over Events will be all 100 Strokes and 200 Free and 200 IM What to Bring Swimmers will be assigned a seat at the OAKS six feet apart at the poles in OAKS. Swimmers will need to bring a Chair or Towel to sit on and snacks and water for the 3 Hour Meet. Cost 25 dollars Volunteer Shifts We will need six timers for the meet. These timers will use their phones only for timing.

Parent Resources

Being a sports parent is hard.

'Should I push her more, or am I pushing too hard?' 'Are we doing too much, or are we not doing enough?' 'Are we having enough fun, or are we having too much fun?' 'Are we competing, or are we just participating?'

There should be a manual for this, but there isn't. Keep the lines of communication open. Know what your kids think about themselves and what they think about their sports.

Find middle ground and stability. Sometimes they need to be pushed harder, sometimes they need to be loved more. Sometimes they need more skills practice,

sometimes they need more games and competition, sometimes they just need a break.

Know what they want to get out of being an athlete. Help them set goals and create a plan on how to help them reach their goals. Hold them accountable and teach them how to hold themselves accountable.

Teach them how to be great teammates. Teach them how to be great people. Teach them how to compete.

Above all, just love and enjoy them, and let them know how much you love and enjoy them. Tell them that you love watching them play. Tell them that watching them play is one of your favorite things. Create and live out the memories that you want to keep.

Sooner than later, they will be retired athletes like us, and all we will be left with is the memories. What they will be left with is the result of how we treated them. Please remember our last core value when we use these standards! Value the Journey, Not the Destination. We must track each swimmer and their process or lack of progress; however, we are trying to build great young people for life not just in swimming. The best words a parent can say after a great or bad race is I LOVE WATCHING YOU SWIM AND I LOVE YOU! Remember to let the coaches do the coaching and stick to those words as much as you can!
