FC076—Tools on the Aerial
DESCRIPTION AND EXPECTED PERFORMANCE: Go over every single tool on
the Ladder truck and its use. Define the purpose of the tools, their origin, and
their intended use. Explain the dangers of using a tool or piece of equipment
against manufacturer recommendations. Also, what tools are mounted to the
actual Aerial device? Practice deploying and using them at heights. Safety first.
Length: 2 HOURS REFERENCE: NFPA 1001, 1002 Standards. Firefighting Essentials, 6th ed. IFSTA. BVFD
SOPs and Guidelines related to the use of
equipment and tools located on the Lad-
der Truck/Aerial.
Equipment, Props, Information or Other Resources Needed: Full PPE, ground ladders, Aerial Device/Ladder Truck, simulated
rescue scenario, tools, safety precautions, and a dedicated safety officer watching over the drill if working at elevated heights.

Ladder Truck. Be able to demonstrate finding
the location and knowing the use of any tool.
The Company Officer shall lead this drill.

Rescue Situations
Practice retrieving equipment and reporting back
to the Company Officer.
Also, each crew member and the team should
practice setting up for the attachment of a litter
with a tender in the rare case the aerial could be
used for lift a patient via high angle. Ensure the
truck is in rescue mode for water way and prac-
tice setups. Keep crews near the ground; this is
for setup only. Full exercises require a designat-
ed Safety Officer with Instructor II qualifications.
