Automatic Wake-Up Report
Depending on the predetermined database parameters (see Chapter 20 in the Program Interface
Reference Manual), the system will automatically print out detailed reports when the following
events take place:
Event Message
Wake-Up Request Entered NEW ENTRYWake-Up Request Deleted CANCELWake-Up Request Completion CONFIRMWake-Up Request Not Executed FAIL
When a wake-up request is not executed, the report will include the reason for the failure, for
example: busy, no answer, lock-out, undefined.
The report format is:
Each new Wake-Up request or cancellation will be printed. When the system fails to perform
the wake-up request, the attendant will be alerted.
Wake-Up: Intercept By Attendant
If for any reason the system fails to complete the wake-up after three attempts of the
predetermined interval (snooze), the wake-up call will be diverted to the attendant. In this case,
the following display will be shown:
(st#) NOT WOKEN
In order to activate this feature, it must be defined in the system PI database.
Wake-Up Message
When an automatic wake-up message is required instead of a personal attendant call, the
system will provide one of the following types of message sources. These are:
Tape recorder connected to single line port
Music source (or tone)
The tape recorder can be either a single or multiple type and an SLT port will be assigned to
the tape recorder. A station requesting wake-up will be transferred to the message source.
The Wake-Up announcement destination is programmable through the Coral database.

Receiving Message at Guest Station
A room can be equipped with either a FlexSet or SLT, each of which can receive the Message
Waiting signal. When a room receives a Message Waiting signal the following events take
place, according to the type of telephone in use:
FlexSet
a. When a Message is received in a guest room equipped with a FlexSet, the message
lamp will illuminate.
As a result of pressing the MSG key (programmed #175), the guest will initiate a call
back to a predetermined system destination, that is attendant, message center, front desk
voice mail, etc.
As an option, a predetermined periodic message waiting ring can be sent, accompanied
by the following flashing message:
MESSAGE WAITING
b. If the station is defined as an automatic hot line, then, when the handset is lifted an
automatic call will be put through to the attendant.
SLT
a. When a guest room, equipped with an SLT message lamp receives a Message, the lamp
will flash.
As an option, a predetermined periodic Message Waiting ring can be sent (for SLT not

E. CALL RECORDING AND BILLING
Coral provides the possibility of sending a record of various types of predetermined outgoing
calls. The call record will be sent either to a printer, to a Call Account System, or directly to
the PMS through a an IP port or dedicated unidirectional RS-232 port. By default call records
will include the following details:
Date the call began
Time the call began
Duration of call
Trunk group code or name
Trunk number
Number of pulse metering or charge
Station/room number to be charged
Account code number
Marking call as incoming or outgoing
Dialed number
Following is the default call record structure sent by Coral:
In addition, the Coral provides the possibility of charging a call that has been transferred from
the attendant to a guest. This is performed through the SMDR SPLIT parameter which is
defined in the Program Interface (PI). Cost may be divided according to the following
requirements:
Only the attendant is charged
Only the guest is charged
The charge is split between the attendant and the guest, according to usage.
For full technical data see SMDR Specifications manual.
The message structure, sent from a Call Account System, depends on the type of Call Account System.

F. ROOM STATUS
The Coral Hotel/Motel feature provides a set of 16 flexibly defined room statuses for up to 10
alpha-numeric characters. Each name may be given a status. Changes can be made manually by
dialing the status code followed by an activation or cancellation code. Changes of room status
assignments are reported to the PMS system for further handling.
Typical status names can be clean, vacant, bar, reserved, or what other names one deems
appropriate.
These room statuses may be addressed or verified either by the maid or by the executive
housekeeper.
Maid (FlexSet/SLT) Operation
For example, status code 7010 is defined as CLEAN in the Coral data base. When the maid
enters a room that is equipped with a FlexSet, she will press the MAID key programmed with
7010 and then cancellation code #10. Confirmation tone is then heard and the following
message will be displayed briefly:
CLEAN DEASSIN
As a result an appropriate message will be sent to the PMS.
After the room has been cleaned the MAID key should be pressed again followed by dialing
activation code #11. Confirmation tone is heard and the following message will be displayed
briefly:
CLEAN ASSIN
As a result an appropriate message will be sent to the PMS.
When the room is equipped with an SLT the status code 7010 is dialed followed either by #10
for deassign or by #11 for assign.

K. FlexAttendant GUEST DIRECTORY
The Guest Directory, located in the FlexAttendant, contains all of the hotel/motel guests, as
well as their room telephone (extension) numbers. The Guest Directory may optionally include:
Guest's group name
Remarks about each guest
VIP status
Coral dial number, for example, trunks and features
In addition to the above information, the Guest Directory also provides a real-time display of
the status of the guest's telephone. This display shows, among others, the status of the
telephone extension (busy or idle) and the number of waiting messages.
The Guest Directory can be updated either through the PMS or locally through the
FlexAttendant when a guest is either checking in or checking out.
Entries into the Guest Directory can be made in any order. The FlexAttendant will
automatically alphabetize according to the first letter of the first name entered, typically this is
the guest's last name. A fast guest search may be activated either by name or room number.
Entries into the Guest Directory can include names of guests who have not yet arrived at the
hotel and therefore do not have a specific telephone number in the system for leaving
messages.
The attendant may review the calls being handled by or queued to the console by screen driven
information.
Incoming calls may be handled selectively by the attendant according to call priorities. For
example, reservations or VIP calls may be chosen ahead of internal calls. If no decision is
made for call priorities than the calls are presented on a “First-in/First-out” basis.

L. ACCOUNT CODE
The Account Code feature allows the attendant to charge a guest's outgoing call from any
telephone in the hotel. Account codes can contain from 4 to 16 digits as defined by the system.
In addition, Forced Account Code can be defined as a system option. When defined as such,
any attempt to dial an outside line through certain line groups will be denied. Once the Account
Code is entered, the outgoing call will be recorded in the SMDR and charged to the guest's
room.
Method Of Operation
When required, the attendant can enter the Account Code either before the guest makes the call
or while the outside line is being dialed or in progress.
The attendant activates the Account Code as follows:
After the attendant receives a request to make a call for a guest, but before the call is made, the
key programmed with feature code #1990 is pressed and the following message will be shown:
ENTER ACCOUNT #ACCOUNT NUMBER
The attendant then enters the Account Codes. When the required digits are entered the
following display will appear:
DIALACCOUNT NO xxxx
The attendant then selects the line key or dials the outside line access number, and proceeds to
dial the requested telephone number as usual. When the call is completed the guest will be
charged and call details will be reported to the Call Account System, when present.
The procedure for activating the Account Code while dialing the outside line is the same as above, except that the code is entered while actually dialing the outside line or while the call is in progress.

M. INTERFACE TO PROPERTY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (PMS)
The Coral Hotel/Motel system supports communication with a PMS by means of a special
FlexAttendant application called “PCH”.
The Hotel/Motel system is connected to the PMS through two information links. One link runs
directly from the Coral serial port or IP port to the PMS, for Call Account records. Optionally
this link can also be run through a Customer Call Account System. A second link is designated
for Check-In/Check-Out, Room Status, Messages, Don't Disturb and Wake-Up message.

N. UNIFORM CALL DISTRIBUTION (UCD)
Areas with very high incoming call loads such as attendant groups, Message Centers,
reservations or room service can be handled efficiently with uniform call and equalized load
distribution using the UCD/ACD feature.
To ensure maximum distribution of incoming call loads, stations may be defined in multiple
groups at different localities.
During night service some groups may be joined into one group in which various types of calls
such as reception, reservations and cashier calls will be handled.
When the staff is busy, a recorded announcement notifies callers that they will be served as
soon as possible; while waiting, callers can listen to music or other hotel announcements.

O. Comtrol Integration Overview with Coral and FlexAttendant
Overview
The PMS integration adheres to the Comtrol UHLL specification and is logically implemented
in two parts:
A COM Object (PmsInterface.dll) handles communication with the PMS device, including
implementation of a large subset of the UHLL protocol. It passes information to and from
its host application through standard COM request and event interfaces. It has no
"intelligence" of its own but is controlled entirely by the host application.
The Application hosting the COM object communicates with the Coral and (optionally)
with the user. The COM interfaces to and from the application do not expose any details
of the UHLL protocol. Application types which can support the COM object include
Visual Basic, C++ (ATL and/or MFC) and .NET (using COM Interop). The application
can choose to handle or ignore events passed to it, and as such is expected to support a
smaller subset of the UHLL protocol than the COM object, depending on its specific
requirements and capabilities. FlexAttendant has been enhanced to support PMS in this
way.
COM Object
Table 3-3 on page 3-25 gives the names and numeric IDs of the relevant data fields used by
PmsInterface.dll.
Table 3-4 on page 3-26 shows the supported interfaces and, for each interface, the direction
(In = to application, Out = to PMS) and the data fields used.
FlexAttendant Implementation
FlexAttendant version 2.5.1 installs with all required PMS components. However, PMS has to
be separately authorized by setting "IsPmsAuthorized=Yes" during registration.
The Status Bar shows the PMS status separately from the overall status as depicted below:
Table 3-2 Status Bar
FlexAttendant can receive inputs from, and send outputs to: the Coral, the user, and the PMS
device. Table 3-5 on page 3-27 shows events for which the PMS is either a source or a

destination. All actions are enabled by default but can be disabled through configuration
settings.
When FlexAttendant is in use with an active PMS connection, certain changes and restrictions
will apply. Depending on demand, it may be possible to remove the restrictions in a future
version. If the PMS is deactivated (by removing its authorization or unregistering
PmsInterface.dll), FlexAttendant will revert to normal behavior. The changes are:
PMS capabilities are restricted to the first ("controlled") switch.
PMS directory management works only with Standalone (Access) integration. Outlook and LDAP do not support name/room/extension relationships with sufficient flexibility.
Any UI changes are currently implemented in English only.
The Directory field "First Name" is renamed "Name" and used for the "FullName" supplied by PMS.
The Directory field "Location" is renamed "Room".
The Directory field "Department" is renamed "Account".
During installation, fields in the Advanced Directory Search window should be resized to hide
"Last Name" and other unused fields. (These changes are "sticky" but reversible.)

UHLL Specification Issues
1. “Value list” format is defined as one or more alphanumeric characters. “Alphanumeric” is
defined as a-z, A-Z, 0-9 and space. But “value list” fields such as GM Message Mask are
described as “comma-delimited list...”
2. Fields defined as “value list” where the context implies that only one value is possible or
necessary: Language, Inhibit, Access Level.
3. “DND Status” defined but not used. “Do Not Disturb” message has no documented way to
turn DND on or off.
4. “Add Extension” does not include Room Number data field. If extension is associated with
a room, room number should be included. If not (wireless phone?) specification should
state which messages cause extension to be removed. Workaround: look up room by Full
Name and Account Number.
5. Resync Data Response and Resync End Response: unclear whether to send after each
packet (essentially duplicating ACK) or after end of transaction.
