CORACORA

1. Summary The purpose of this document is to illustrate the dissemination activities of the CORA results. First, a brief description of the activities and milestones of the WP5 (Project Dissemination) that is the work-package that treats these topics. Then, slides and minutes of the presentations of CORA results at meetings are presented.

2. WP5 - Project Dissemination: Activities and Milestones

The work package on Project Dissemination (WP5) deals with dissemination of CORA results through a wiki, a web site and meetings. Its activities started on month M1 and ended on month M13 that is the CORA project ending date. The participant NSIs were: Istat as coordinator, DST, SCB, LS, SFSO, SSB and CBS. As first activity two mailing lists have been set up, namely cora-all, including all people working on the project from the different participating countries, and cora-tc consisting of people included in the CORA technical committee, specifically Carlo Vaccari from Istat coordinator of the ESSnet, Monica Scannapieco from Istat technical manager and coordinator of WP1, Laura Tosco from Istat coordinator of WP5, Marton Vucsan from CBS coordinator of WP3 and Dieter Profos from SFSO coordinator of WP2. As first dissemination activity, a CORA wiki has been set up by Istat at the address: https://www.wiki.istat.it/doku.php/start?idx=essnet_cra It is accessible only by the CORA partners, the external observers and Eurostat, being a working area. It has been used for: (a) internal document exchanges, (b) discussion on specific topics, (c) work organization as to-do lists, deadlines, .., (d) collection of meetings presentations and documentation. The wiki has been used both at proposal and project stage. The wiki is organized in general sections and sections specifically dedicated to each WP. Such sections have been organized by each WP leader in order to support the collaborative work among WP participants. In more details, the wiki has the following general structure: Proposal; Partners Contacts; Discussion on WPs by e-mail; WPs

• Documents; • Discussion;

 Meetings;  Additional documents.

For the dissemination of the documents, a CORA deliverable template has been defined and is available on the wiki under the section dedicated to WP5.

11:30 - 12:10 UNECE Perspective: CORA and the Software Repository (Steven Vale) (WP5 -Cooperation with SAB) 12:10 - 12:40 Requirements Collection (Jenny Linnerud) (WP2) 12:40: 13:00 State of the Art (Monica Scannapieco) (WP2) 13:00– 14:00 Lunch Break 14:00 - 15:30 Definition of the Technical Architecture (Marton Vucsan, JP. Kent, J. Engdahl) (WP3) 15:30 - 15:45 Coffee Break 15:45 - 16:15 Software Architecture Prototype(Antonino Virgillito, R. Ossendrijver) (WP3) 16:15 - 16:45 Discussion 16:45 – 17:15 Conclusions (Eurostat) Carlo Vaccari presented an overview of the results of CORA and concluded with some positive and negative remarks. Notable positive remarks regarded the software repository obtained as side-effect of the ESSnet work, while notable negative remarks regard the administrative load required by the project management. A question related to SDMX collaboration was posed, and Carlo Vaccari answered that it is planned, for CORA follow-up, to study in depth interactions with SDMX. Monica Scannapieco showed the main activities of the management (WP1) and dissemination (WP5) workpackages, by focusing on collaborative tools used, and CORA web site. Dieter Profos showed the principal outcomes of WP4, regarding organizational architecture. Classification and analysis tables concerning tools used by NSIs were shown. Jaen-Pierre Grandjean made a remark concerning the documentation of tools in country specific languages. Marton Vucsan replied that it’s true but development can cost more. Dieter Sarreither observed that introducing new tools in his institute is very difficult, especially open source ones that require a maintenance that is often difficult to have. Torben Soborg proposed to investigate why successful tools (Blaise, PCAXIS) have been used. Giulio Barcaroli suggested to start a process for selecting the best tools for each phase. Christine Wirtz posed the problem of language features specific of Eastern European countries. Steven Vale presented the UNECE perspective on CORA and the software repository. He pointed the importance to rely on projects like CORA for performing well-defined task in cooperation. Then, he showed the software inventory available on the MSIS wiki. SAB (Software Advisory Board) will take over the maintenance of the repository. There was a question about the possibility of hosting software, and Steve Vale answered that it was not planned because not one of the aims.

CORACORA

Jenny Linnerud presented the results of WP2 concerning the collection of the set of requirements for CORA. She showed the structure of the prepared questionnaire and the obtained results. A question was posed on the background of the people answering the questionnaire. No deep analysis was performed but the background was considered. Dieter Sarreither apologised for the missing reply from Germany due to very high workload for the next Census round. Monica Scannapieco presented the results of WP2 concerning collection and analysis of the state of the art documents. After the lunch break, Marton Vucsan started the afternoon session on WP3 results. He presented the main ideas underlying CORA proposal. The model does not take into account performance or implementation details. Jean Pierre Kent then presented an example of CORA usage. Georges Pongas outlined that there is an hidden complexity in the model, due to “how-to” execute the different services. Jacob Engdahl showed another example of possible usage of CORA within Triton project. Due to the absence of Ronald Ossenndrijver, Jean Pierre Kent presented WP3’s technical annex. Finally, Antonino Virgillito presented a demonstration of a prototype of a CORA wrapper. It was suggested to look closer to NSIs reference architecture within SDMX, in particular mapping assistant functionalities. Dieter Sarreither reported his experience on transformations targeted to dissemination phase. Antonio Consoli invited people from other countries to discuss CORA results. Joachim Machado (Portugal) commented that Portugal is very interested in the collaboration for implementing CORA results. Jean-Pierre Grandjean (France) said that CORA results can be interesting, and that is why they also participate to CORE proposal. Bjorgvin Sigurosson (Island) found interesting CORA results and very useful for his applications. Czech Republic and Estonia also showed their interest. Dieter Sarreither (Germany) said that the work of CORA was interesting because structures very well the IT architecture that should support business process models but that he was not sure in which of the several important projects ongoing together with Eurostat he could invest the scarce available resources. In conclusions the participants found the results of the project very interesting and useful. Software inventory should be maintained. It is worth continuing the work, to expand the model and go towards implementations. CORA alone could not solve the problem of integrate and share common tools but moved a step forward in the definition of ways of interfacing different tools.
