Supplies needed- 1 ball each of Peaches and Crème in bright lime and tropical sea, and Sugar ‘n Cream in hot pink, or any other worsted weight yarn of your choosing H hook, J hook Pattern is written for newborn/infant size with alternate directions for toddler size in [square brackets] First up, the “Grass” Skirt! Using H hook and the bright lime Ch 80, turn [ch 100, turn] In 2nd stitch Ss, then ss 28 more for a total of 29, sc 20, ss 30, tie off [In 2nd stitch, ss, then ss in 33 more for a total of 34 ss, sc 30, ss 35, tie off]

Re-join yarn at first sc (Shown in picture above)

Ch 30 and join with a ss to the next stitch. (Shown in picture above) Repeat 19x for a total of 20 loops made up of 30 chains each. Sew in all your ends and the hula skirt is done! [Re-join yarn at first sc. Ch 30 and join with a ss to the next st. Repeat 29 times for a total of 30 loops made up of 30 chains each. Sew in your ends and you’re done! ]

Next up, the Lei! Using J hook and holding two strands of worsted weight cotton together (I used hot pink and tropical sea here) and leaving a 10 in tail, chain 50 and tie off with a knot. I don’t bother to sew in these ends; I just knot both ends and use the long strands as ties. Feel free to sew ends together to make a loop, or sew in your ends, but don’t do that until all the flowers are ON the lei.

The flowers for the lei are 2 different sizes. Small Flower-using H hook In a magic ring, draw up a loop and chain 1 {Sc 1, dc 1, tc 1, dc 1} 5x. Sc 1 and ss to join Medium Flower-using H hook In a magic ring, draw up a loop and chain 1 Round 1. {Sc 1, dc 1, tc 1, dc 1} 5x. Sc 1 and ss to join Now that you have the basic flower, you are going to crochet an edging around it. Round 2. {Chain 2 and slip stitch in the next stitch} 20x. This will create the ruffle border that I think resembles a hibiscus.

Make 4 of each size flower in whatever color combinations you like for a total of 8 flowers. Pull flowers onto the long chain you made first, first using two small flowers, then the four medium flowers, and

then the other 2 small flowers. Now you may tie or sew the ends of the lei together. [If you tie and don’t sew it together, this lei is big enough for toddlers too. Of course you could always just chain a longer chain and add a few flowers to make it longer and fuller if you’d like it to be a bit bigger for a toddler or child, maybe chain 60 and do 10-12 flowers. Really it’s whatever suits your preference.]

Lastly, the Hawaiian Head Lei crochet pattern! Use the small flower pattern above to make 4 small flowers.

Next, using the hot pink yarn, you’re going to make a ch2 edging around half the first flower in the same way you made a border around the medium sized flowers-- Join your pink yarn to any stitch on the outside of the first flower, ch2 and ss in the next st. Continue to ch 2 and ss in each stitch halfway around that first flower. It should look something like this:

Next, chain 36 to make the first tie of the headpiece. Slip stitch in each chain back down the length of

that tie.

Once you get to this point, continue your chain 2 slip stitch border around the rest of this 1st flower.

Now it’s time to join your border to the next flower. All you have to do is slip stitch to any stitch around

the edge of the next flower. Then continue to chain 2 and slip stitch in each stitch around half of 2nd

flower.

Once you’ve stitched half way around the 2nd flower, slip stitch to the next flower, and continue border.

Continue halfway around third flower and attach 4th flower the same way as the 2nd and 3rd. When you

get halfway around the last flower, chain 36 and slip stitch back down that length to create the 2nd tie.

Finally, continue to chain 2 and slip stitch in each stitch around the border of the other halves of the

three flowers with unfinished borders, using a slip stitch to connect each flower a second time, and

finishing with a slip stitch to the first flower. Tie off and sew in your ends.

[To make this headband toddler/child sized simply add 10 chains to each tie, making the chains on each

side of the flowers 46 long instead of 36.]

You have now completed the Hula Baby Photo Prop Set! Aloha!
