I enjoy breathing effortlessly anddeeply.

Breathing is my way of dispersing serenitythrough my body. In order to relax, I takeslow, deep breaths. I inhale gradually, allowing my lungs to be filled with air. When I exhale, I take my time controllingmy breath so it exits my body at a steadypace. I pause and listen to the air flowing in andout of my body. I avoid short, shallowbreaths that end in my chest. Instead, when I breathe, I make sure to breathedeeply.

In the morning, when I go outdoors, Ibreathe in the freshness of the morningdew. Cleansing my body with freshair helps me start my day off right. Ienjoy breathing air free from pollutants.

My life is free from the effects of smoking.I do not smoke and I stay away fromsmoky places in order to protect my lungs. As a result, I breathe with ease.

I free myself from dependency oncigarettes.

I can let go of my desire for cigarettes. Mylife plan leaves cigarettes out of the picturebecause I know I am stronger than mycurrent need for them.

I realize that I pull out a cigarette to helpme cope with stressful situations. Inuncomfortable situations, smoking is anaccessory to help ease my tension, yet Iam certain that my body can do without acigarette to cope with stress.

There are dozens of other forms of stressrelief that, unlike cigarettes, are healthyand productive.

Not only does smoking put my health atrisk, but it also makes it increasinglydifficult to perform everyday activities, such as running, jogging, and walking upa flight of stairs. I am beginning to feel thehealth effects now, and I know theybecome progressively worse with age.

Furthermore, I am also putting myfamily at risk for secondhand smoke.I realize that I would feel terrible if mychildren or spouse developed medicalcomplications due to my smoking habit.

Undoubtedly, smoking causes my healthto take a hit. But, it also affects my wallet.Life and health insurance costs more forsmokers. And the cost of a pack ofcigarettes is on the rise. Surely, I can putthat money to better use.

Today, I choose to break away from mydependency on cigarettes once and for all. I love life too much to risk it all for anunhealthy habit I can do without.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. Do I smoke to help me cope withuncomfortable situations?

2. When did I begin to smoke and why?3. What am I going to do, today, to kick

the habit?
