1. Insure SNA members and stakeholders understand “National School Food and Beverage Standards” (NSFBS)

2. Gain commitment for NSFBS among all SNA member segments

3. Gain support of national and local media4. Gain support for NSFBS among key groups and

meetings5. Seek introduction and passage of NSFBS

Objective #1

Insure SNA members and stakeholders understand what is meant by NSFBS

• Define what NSFBS “is” and “isn’t”• Develop NSFBS

• Pre-emptive• Reimbursable Meals: (NSLP, NSBP, After School Snacks)• All other food sold or consumed during

the school day:(school parties, fundraisers, a la carte, vending, teacher rewards/incentives)

• Standards proposed by USDA: (science-based – adhere to most recent DGA’s, stakeholder input, deadline w/penalty

• Enforceable & Monitored by local wellness committees

• Healthier for all children nationwide

ISN’T

• After school activities; I.e. football games, club meetings, etc.

• No financial implementation to state/local government

• No federal outlay ($)


Objective #2

Gain commitment for NSFBS among all SNA member segments:

• State Agency Directors• District Director/Supervisor

Manager/Employee Members• Industry


Objective #3

Gain support of national and local media

• Engage a PR firm to help develop media strategies and begin aggressive legislative campaign

• Provide materials to members for reaching media


Objective #4

Gain support for NSFBS among key groups and meetings

• Identify organizations• Use Child Nutrition Forum• Utilize PR materials• Ads and articles in publications• Presentations at national meetings• “Sign-on” letters of support


Objective #5

Seek introduction and passage of NSFBS legislation

• Identify bipartisan Congressional sponsors • Build Congressional support
