There are 2 primary species of elephants, African and Asian. There are many differencesbetween the 2, the main one being where they live. Asian elephants live in Asia and African

elephants live in Africa. Some other key difference are:

More Fun Facts Trunks are used as a hand to pick up things, a horn tosend a warning, an arm to touch and wave, a snorkel

while swimming, and a hose for drinking and bathing. Trunks have 150,000 muscle units, humans only have

600 in our entire bodies. Tusks are deep teeth used for a lot of different tasks.Elephants are either right or left tusked just like how

we are right or left handed.Female elephants tend to form herds to migrate with. They always follow the oldest female elephant or thematriarch. The matriarch guides the herd along the

same migration routes each year. Healthy elephants have no natural predators, the only

threats to their survival are human influences, likeroads and farms.

Elephants throw sand on their backs to preventsunburn.

Elephants are very smart, they have great memoryskills and can send signals through stomping on theground and feeling the vibrations with their feet to

recieve messages.

Emotions

Elephants have the ability to

show and understand emotion

similar to humans. They are

able to understand what other

elephants are feeling and are

able to respond just like us!

Issue 5 | 2021

In this activity we are going to learn about andpractice how we respond to people when they

tell us good news. This is also called activeconstructive responding.

In the chart on this page it shows the 4different ways we respond to people when they

tell us their good news. 3 of the ways ofresponding are not very positive. They all takethe attention away from the good news. These

3 make people not want to share their goodnews with you and can make them sad.

The one positive way to respond to someonewill make them feel good about sharing their

good news! The positive way to respond isactive constructive, we do this by giving good

eye contact, asking genuine questions, andencouraging the person sharing to keep

sharing. Active constructive responding keepsall your attention on the good news.

In the activity on the next page, we are going topractice some Active Constructive Responding. There is going to be a situation where someone

says good news and you are going to pickwhich one is Active Constructive Respondingby picking the answer that keeps the focus on

the good news.
