Intro to 3D Printing Camp

In this half-day camp students will learn how toget started in 3D printing. They will learn how a 3Dprinter works, how to design and print projects, as

well as how to troubleshoot and maintain theirprinter. The morning camp (8 - 11:30) will be

targeted at younger students (4th-7th graders). The afternoon camp (1:30 - 5:00) will be designed

for older students (6th-12th graders).*The cost includes a 3D printer (Ender-3) for

students to take home. The cost for students notneeding a printer is $150.

Rising 4th - 12th Graders...............$275*

Engineering Design Camp (Hand)

In this full-day camp students will learn to useCAD software to model and 3D print a prosthetichand that they will be able to take home at theend of the week. They will also explore other

concepts of engineering through fun, hands-onprojects and experiences, both outdoors and in

the engineering labs. The camp runs from 8:00 -5:00. Students will enjoy lunch (included in the

cost).*Students may opt to purchase a 3D printer for

$175.

Rising 6th - 12th Graders...............$299*

Engineering Design Camp (Engine)

In this full-day camp students will learn to use CADsoftware to model and 3D print a working air-

powered internal combustion engine that they willbe able to take home at the end of the week. They

will also explore other concepts of engineeringthrough fun, hands-on projects and experiences,

both outdoors and in the engineering labs. The campruns from 8:00 - 5:00. Students will enjoy lunch

(included in the cost).*Students may opt to purchase a 3D printer for $175.

Rising 6th - 12th Graders...............$299*

F A Q S

How will 3D Printing Camp be affected by COVID-19? Our camps are made up of no more than 20-25 campers. The smaller groupsnaturally limit contact and make it increasingly likely that the camps will beallowed under federal, state and local guidelines.  Each student will have his or her own computer and own 3D printer while atcamp, so that sharing frequently touched items is minimized. Tables, computers, printers and other frequently touched items will be disinfected at the beginningand end of each camp session. Students will be dropped off and picked up in front of the chapel each day, sothat as few people as necessary enter the building. There will be a leader thereto greet them and bid them farewell. What about lunch? Our full-day camps offer lunch in the university cafeteria. During the past fewmonths Union's cafeteria has been working and continues to work to make theaccommodations necessary to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for theirguests. We will continue to work with them as we determine the best possibleoption for serving lunch to our campers. What if the camps have to be canceled? It is our goal to offer all of our camps in-person. However, if federal, state, localor university guidelines change so that we cannot do so, we will offer the Intro to3D Printing Camp online. Each student will have his or her own printer at home, and we will have engaging online lessons and activities for them to learn to useit.   The full-day Engineering Design camps do not lend themselves well to onlineinstruction, so if we cannot meet in person, we will cancel those camps for thisyear and will give you a full refund for the camp cost. If you choose the option toinclude a printer, you will still receive the printer, a roll of filament and videolessons for getting started. You will not be refunded the $175 printer cost.

F A Q S

By when do we have to register? Due to the uncertainties and changes during these last few months, we will nothave a late fee with any of our camps this year. However, you must register byMay 22 to ensure that you will have a T-Shirt and option to purchase a printer. Wewill continue accepting registrations until the camp is full or until the Fridaybefore camp starts, but we cannot guarantee that we will have enough T-shirts orpurchasable printers for campers who register after May 22. (We will still haveenough printers for campers to use while at camp, though.) Does everyone get his or her own 3D printer? The cost for the Intro to 3D Printing Camp includes an Ender-3 printer that youcan take home at the end of the week. If you are registering two siblings andwant them to share a printer, you may de-select the printer option when youregister one of them. The base cost for the camp without the printer is $150. Ifyou already own a 3D printer and do not want to purchase a new one, you mayalso de-select the printer option. However, we will be teaching students how towork with the Ender-3 printer and cannot offer specific explanations for any other3D printers. All students will have their own printer to use while at camp. Participants in the Engineering Design Camps will have their own 3D printer touse while at camp. If they would like to be able to take the printer home at theend of the week, they also have the option to include a printer with theirregistration. The additional cost for the printer is $175. Can I come to more thanone camp?Yes! The Intro camp is primarily designed to teach students themechanics of setting up and working with a 3D printer, whereas the EngineeringDesign Camps focus more on designing with CAD software and engineering. Iwant to attend the Intro Camp. Should I register for the morning or afternoon camp? Both sessions will help students develop the skills they need to get started 3Dprinting. The morning session will be targeted for younger students (4th-7thgraders). The afternoon session will be targeted for older students (6th-12thgraders). Middle schoolers can choose which camp they prefer. The skillscovered will be the same. More questions? Contact [email protected] now at uu.edu/summers/engineering!
