10G & 6A

• The term 6A and 10G are often mixed up in the same sentence showing that there is still some confusion regarding the requirements for 10Gbit over copper.– The IEEE specified the protocol requirements issued under IEEE 802.3an.– Detailed within this standard is the minimum requirements for the data cabling.– The ISO and TIA standards bodies have issued cabling standards that meet and

greatly exceed the IEEE minimum requirements under Class EA at 6A respectfully.

• Nexans are able to offer a cost effective solution to meet the IEEE 10G requirement as well as an outstanding solution for Class EA / 6A.

• Introduced within these standards is a new parameter called “Alien CrossTalk”.

– Power Separation, EN50174:2009 changed the complex requirements– Cable Stacking Height Calculator, EN50174-2:2009 detailed requirements for

this.– Cable Fill Calculator, cable diameters have increased, ensuring the correct

containment is installed is key to quality installations.– Horizontal Link length Calculator, EN50173:2007 details the requirements for

LAN design, make sure the different segments, once patched together conform to these requirements.

– Fibre Selection Tool, make sure you have the correct fibre for the job.
