Once you receive your syllabus and smart goal, put them in your binder and put your binder in the front bookshelves.
Experiment• Open up envelope and spread pieces on table.• Each person get 3 or 4 pieces• Goal: Form 5 squares of equal size. • Rules: No one can talk! No one can ask for a
card or in any way signal that he wants a card. You may give a card to others tho.
• Winner: Each person at the table group that wins earns a tiger track for cooperation!
Discussion Questions:• How did you feel when someone held a piece and did not see the
solution?• What was your reaction when someone finished a square and then
sat back without seeing whether his or her solution prevented others from solving the problem?
• What were your feelings if you finished your square and then began to realize that you would have to break it up and give away a piece?
• How did you feel about the person who was slow to see a solution? If you were the slow person, how did you feel?
• How did you feel when someone gave you a part you needed?• Was there a climate of helping or hindering?• What is the value of this exercise?

• Where are you a leader?– school, sports team, home, with your friends, at
church, yourself, etc….?
• What type of leader are you?– Positional leadership is a position or a title that is
given to you.– Personal leadership is the desire of an individual
to take charge of his or her own life
Personal Leadership
• A leader takes charge of his or her own life by– accepting responsibility for the choices he or she
makes
• What can you do to become a leader in all aspects of your life?– CHOOSE to:
• Be optimistic• Make positive actions/changes• Value others
Leaders know Etiquette• Etiquette is a set of rules for socially acceptable behavior.
– A person who follows these rules is said to have good manners.
• Leaders use good manners to – Build positive relationships – Interact in a respectful way– Show consideration towards others – Make other people feel important
Leaders who know etiquette show that they VALUE others.
Where do we find etiquette?
• Home• School• Restaurant/At the dinner table• When you are a guest• Phone/Internet• In other public places:– Mall, movies, church, etc..
Etiquette is EVERYWHERE!!!
Where does etiquette come from?3 C’s of Etiquette • Custom– Habit of doing things because others continue the
habit from long ago (shaking hands, tipping hat)• Consideration– Most Important!!!– Thinking about others and the way they feel
• Common Sense– Almost all manners have some element of common
sense. (ex. Pushing your way to front of the line.)
