The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship features multi-class racing presenting a dimension of competition as drivers must be aware of classes with distinctly different speeds as they navigate the race tracks. This is the same challenge American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón drivers face.

The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship was developed to support the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón, the premier prototype and GT endurance racing series in the world. The series features global race car constructors Élan Technologies and West Race Cars. Lites offers racers from around the world the opportunity to compete at historic racing venues like Sebring International Raceway, Road Atlanta and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

IMSA Development Series

The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship is an IMSA developmental Series competing on the same event weekends as the American Le Mans Series presented be Tequila Patrón. Aligning with the ALMS gives the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship maximum visibility at events regularly attracting over 75,000 spectators.

Professional Sanctioning Body

Celebrating its 42nd season in motorsports, IMSA is the premier sanctioning body for road racing in North America. Since its establishment in 1969, IMSA has conducted hundreds of auto races on a variety of permanent and temporary racing circuits in the United States and Canada.

Exclusively in the auto racing business, IMSA organizes and officiates professional road racing competitions. IMSA is one of the eight member clubs of the Automobile Competition Committee of the United States (ACCUS), which is the FIA sporting association for the United States. As such, IMSA is one of just a few organizations in the U.S. authorized to stage competitions based in the International Sporting Code.

Currently IMSA sanctions several professional auto racing series including the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón, IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama and Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship, Each series provides a unique form of auto racing action through varying levels of driver and manufacturer competition.

The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship has two classes, L:1 & L:2, giving competitors different entry points based upon career level.

Regardless of class, drivers will develop valuable experience negotiating the speed differentials of multi-class sports car racing.
