“cooking with the preps”

Preps and Pikelets

The Preps have been busy in the kids’ kitchen making pikelets. We thought this would be a fun, hands-on and engaging way to teach them how to write a procedure. In groups of 4-5 they added the ingredients, whisked them together and then fried them with the help of some brave parent helpers. Then they got to eat them with jam, butter or maple syrup.

“I really liked how everyone got a turn and how everyone got to do one thing. I had mine plain, they were delicious and yummy.” – Ellie, Prep J

Once they had eaten the pikelets, they got busy writing the ingredients and the method. They all produced some fantastic writing which parents will see at the end of the term in their portfolios.

A special thanks to the parent helpers who came in, we couldn’t have done it without you!

Happy Book Week 2018!! This year the theme for Book Week is Find My Treasure. And RPS is celebrating in lots of different ways. We have 2 events booked for the week including:

Heroes and Villains: Prep/1/2 on Monday 20th August; John Larkin Creative Writing Workshop: Year 3/4 on Thursday afternoon 23rd August

Writer’s Notebook Gallery Our Gallery is now set up in the corridor near the staffroom upstairs where you will see a display of the great writing done by writers across the whole school. When students talk about Writers Notebook, this is what they are talking about. Not all of our writers are showcased, but over time we hope to show a sample of the work of each student.

Book Parade This Friday August 24 After Assembly Have you got your costume ready for the book week parade? There’s only 4 sleeps to go. Can’t wait to see every-one dressed as a book character. (If there is bad weather, this event will be held in the GP Room.)

Don’t Forget!

Daffodil Day Buy a pin or volunteer for Daffodil Day on Friday, 24 August 2018.

TV STARS AT RPS

Last week twelve students were invited to record a segment for Channel 7. They were interviewed in pairs by AFL players Mason Cox and Tom Philips. It was not an easy experience being under lights, with three cameramen and microphones attached. We were very proud watching all twelve students approach the experience with a positive mindset. They were funny, thoughtful, polite and respectful. Well done to all our RPS Stars!

When: Monday 27 August

6.30 pm - 8.00 pm (light refreshments provided)

Where: Richmond Town Hall, 333 Bridge Road, Rich-mond

We hope you can make it to this community event

CURRICULUM DAY CATCH UP

Last Friday staff from Richmond Primary and Carlton North Primary spent the day engaged in professional learning around the teaching of numeracy. As part of our partnership with Reservoir West PS we have been building our knowledge of best practice in the teaching of maths. We were very fortunate to have Martin Holt from the Maths Association of Victoria to discuss how to embed Critical and Creative Thinking Capability through the Maths Proficiencies. This gave teachers greater insight into how they can plan maths lessons that further develop students thinking at a deeper level.

Teachers are looking forward to implementing this and making our students learning even more challenging, engaging and valuable.
