Technology Oracle APEX (Application Express) is a proven and mature web-based development tool based on Oracle PL / SQL that generates HTML commands. A web browser is used in the development process and the use of applications. Simple web applications can be created without too much knowledge of SQL or PL / SQL.

With APEX you can use many Oracle functions such as stored procedures, database views and triggers. Since its introduction in 2004, the development of APEX has continued. APEX is the basis of the tailor-made development of business-critical applications. With APEX a developer has access to the full power of Oracle. Now and in the future.

To develop on the basis of APEX and to be able to use applications, an internet browser is sufficient. This makes the applications, with excellent performance, available through any kind of device. The user interface can be functionally and purposefully designed to support an intuitive way of working.

Oracle Forms vs. Oracle APEX.

Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports are tools that support the development of client server and web applications based on an installation on a local PC. The development of this toolkit has been stalled for years, since 2005 only updates have been issued to remain compliant with new operating systems. The support of the current 12.2 version runs until 2020.

Due to the C / S architecture, it is always necessary to install specific Java software locally. Solutions created with Forms are not available on mobile platforms and to achieve a good performance high requirements apply to the client PC.

Functionally and technically, there are many reasons to consider switching to Oracle APEX.

Continuity As indicated previously, the continuity of Forms and Report is a subject that deserves your direct attention. The support mostly will expire within 2 years (depending on the type of contract this support may continue until 2023 with the current version). APEX develops continuously, just like the Oracle database, of which it is an integrated part. APEX is also suitable for applications in the Oracle Cloud. In order to guarantee the continuous development and availability of (business-critical) applications based on Oracle Forms and Reports in the future, a timely evaluation of the process leading to a migration to Oracle APEX has become a necessity.

For the transition from the Oracle Developer platform to APEX we have developed a method consisting of six steps.
