12:30 - 2:30 p.m. LEARNING LAB #1 GROUP A 1 IJCAHPO GROUP A RETINOSCOPYCraig Simms, BSc, COMT, CDOS, ROUB Glenn Ottenbreit, COMTWarren Whitford, COMTThis learning lab will provide attendees the opportunity to perform retinoscopy. This lab begins with the student identifying with and against motion, then to neutralizing refractive errors using a schematic eye. Attendees are required to bring their own retinoscope.

IMPORTANT NOTE: ATTENDEES ARE TO BRING THEIR OWN RETINOSCOPES.

LEARNING LAB #1 GROUP B 1 IJCAHPO GROUP A BASIC EXAM SKILLSCraig Simms, BSc, COMT, CDOS, ROUB Glenn Ottenbreit, COMTWarren Whitford, COMTIn this learning lab, attendees will have the opportunity to perform three different skills while rotating through stations. The three skills covered are pupil assessment, basic ocular motility, and Amsler grid.

8:00-9:00 a.m. DRIVING AND OCULAR DISEASES IN BRITISH COLUMBIA Sripriya Rajagopalan, DNB, MRCS, MRCOphth, FRCSCIn this course, how various ocular diseases can affect driving will be discussed. This course hopes to create awareness of the ICBC regulations for various ocular conditions.

9:00-10:00 a.m. THE TECHNICIAN’S ROLE IN EYE BANKING Gordon Carter, COMT This course will examine the technician’s role in all aspects of ocular recovery for transplant. Medical records review, blood draw, enucleation, and excision of corneas will be covered.

10:00-10:15 a.m. BREAK

10:15-11:15 a.m. COLOUR VISION Craig Simms, BSc, COMT, CDOS, ROUB This course will cover colour vision and colour vision defects before moving on to the different ways to test colour vision. A review of pseudoisichromatic plates, the D-15 and the 100 Hue will be covered. A case study of a family with colour vision defects will be presented. The different testing methods will be shown in an attempt to determine the type of colour vision defect present.

11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. ULTRASOUND FOR THE DIABETIC PATIENT Craig Simms, BSc, COMT, CDOS, ROUBThis course will explore ultrasonic techniques specific to ultrasonic findings in a diabetic patient. A review of examination techniques will be covered, as well as techniques specific to diabetic retinopathy. Specific techniques will include examination of vitreous hemorrhage examination, retinal tear, and posterior hyphema.

12:15-1:00 p.m. LUNCH

1:00-2:00 p.m. IMAGING THE ANTERIOR SEGMENT WITH ULTRASOUND BIOMICROSCOPY Gordon Carter, COMT This course will discuss the technician’s role in acquiring images with the UBM. Anterior chamber and zonular assessment will be covered, as well as imaging tumors in the iris and ciliary body.

2:00-3:00 p.m. OCULAR TRAUMA AND MANAGEMENT Femida, Kherani, MD, FRCSC, DABO This course will describe the classifications of eye trauma and an overview of treatment options available to manage different types of ocular trauma.

3:00-4:00 p.m. UPDATE ON MINIMALLY INVASIVE GLAUCOMA SURGERY Paul Mackenzie, MD, PhD, FRCSC This will be a didactic lecture outlining recent developments in glaucoma surgery specifically related to newer minimally invasive surgery.

CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDSAll cancellations and requests for refunds must be received by IJCAHPO in writing. A processing fee of $75 is deducted from each cancelled registration to cover a portion of the costs IJCAHPO incurs. CSOMP memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITSIJCAHPO and CA BRN continuing education credits have been approved for this meeting. Continuing education credits earned will be posted on your account at www.jcahpo.org approximately 4-6 weeks after the program.
