PROPOSITIONS S & N PROJECT FACT SHEET
San Diego Continuing Education
As part of the overall $1.555 billion Propositions S and N
construction bond program, seven Continuing campuses
will be rebuilt or undergo major renovations to support
expansions for in‐demand vocational and career training
programs. New campuses include West City, North City,
the Skills Center at the Educational Cultural Complex
(ECC), César E. Chávez, and a Continuing Education
facility located at Mesa College. A classroom wing will be
added to the ECC. Major renovations have already been
completed for the Mid‐City and Centre City campuses.
West City Campus
The nearly 39,000 square foot West City Campus replaced a complex of four outdated single‐story buildings whose
programs had long outgrown the available space. The campus supports academic and career‐training programs in
Culinary Arts, Sewing, Business Information Technology, English for non‐native English Speakers, Parenting,
General Equivalent Diploma (GED) and Emeritus (age 55+) programs. The facility includes a state‐of‐the art
culinary arts kitchen, and “smart” classrooms. High‐efficiency fixtures and recycled materials are used throughout.
The campus was awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification.

Educational Cultural Complex (ECC) Skills Center
The new Skills Center provided for expansions of in‐demand automotive technology and business information
programs. Three single‐story buildings and three covered repair areas were added for a total of 67,010 sq. ft. The
campus includes new repair bays, drive‐in spray paint booths, shops, labs, classrooms, demonstration theatres,
and other teaching and learning spaces .The facility maximizes the use of natural daylight to increase user comfort
and productivity. High‐efficiency fixtures reduce water consumption by over 40% compared to a standard
building. The campus was awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification.
North City Campus
The North City Campus will be a new, two‐story, 42,000
square feet facility providing state‐of‐the‐art and
technology‐rich classrooms, computer labs, multipurpose
areas, and administrative offices to support the business
technology curriculum and Disability Support Programs
and Services (DSPS). Materials with recycled content are
used throughout. The project is on track to obtain a
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
Gold certification. The project included land acquisition
and construction of a new parking structure.

The Continuing Education Mesa College
Campus will be a new two‐story, 38,500
square feet facility consolidating programs
currently offered in temporary classrooms
and rented facilities. The new facility will
accommodate English as a Second Language,
Disability Support Programs and Services,
parenting and emeritus programs. It includes classrooms, art labs, a kitchenette, an outdoor play area, and
administrative support space. The project includes a cutting‐edge passive ventilation systems that disengages the
mechanical air conditioning system and automatically opens windows when the weather is comfortable. The
project is on track to obtain a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification.
César E. Chávez Campus
The new César E. Chávez Campus will be a 67,924 square foot facility with 22 classrooms for vocational training,
English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education,
General Education Diploma preparation, Business
Information Technology, Parent Education and Emeritus (age
55+) programs. It will include a multi‐purpose room,
administrative offices and a Small Business Incubator.
Underground parking will provide 150 parking spaces,
including preferred parking for carpools and high fuel
efficiency vehicles. The design is on track to obtain a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver
certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
Educational Cultural Complex (ECC) Wing Expansion
A new two‐story, 18,135 square foot classroom wing will be added to the main building on campus to replace all outdatedbungalows and modular classrooms, labs and support rooms.The wing will provide state‐of‐the‐art classrooms, labs, lectureand support space. A 19,700 square foot space within the existing facility will be renovated to be more space‐efficient and provide offices, counseling and teaching areas. A new55,000 square foot parking area will also be created. The project is on track to obtain a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification
