RELEVANCE OF NCC

WHAT FOR NCC ?

NCC

In the post-independence period, National Cadet Corps came into existence on 15th July

1948 by enactment of NCC Act in Parliament. National Cadet Corps is tri service organization, com-

prising the Army, Navy and Air force engaged in grooming the youth of the country into discipline

and patriotic citizens. The objective behind all these exercises was to mound the youth of the coun-

try to become better citizens of tomorrow.

AIM OF NCC:-

1. To develop character, commandership, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of ad-

venture and ideals of selfless service amongst the youth of the country.

2. To create a human resource of organized, trained, and motivated youth to provide leader-

ship in all walks of life and be always available for the service of the nation.

3. To provide a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up career in the Armed

force.

HISTORY OF NCC IN STEWART SCIENCE COLLEGE

With the establishment of Stewart Science College, Cuttack was in the

year 1944, there was a long-felt need. for some organizational activity for the youth

of the college.

Government of India made NCC compulsory in the country in 1963 in all

universities and colleges. That gave birth to creation of NCC senior division in the

college in 1985.

Provide opportunities and encourage cadets to enhance their

ACCHIVEMENTS OF NCC a) The weekly training is under taken on every Sunday in the NCC unit, the fol-

lowing activities are undertaken.

b) First of all, the cadets are acquainted with the NCC organization and NCC

song.

DRILL

The aim of drill is to inoculate discipline, improve bearing, smartness in ap-

pearance, turnout, develop self confidence and the qualities of the team

sprit and obedience in the cadets. “If I rest, I rust.”

HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

It develops leadership qualities in cadets.

MAP READING

The cadets have elementary knowledge about map reading.

FIELD CRAFT, BATTLE CRAFT & FIELD ENGINEERING

The cadets are taught about judging distance, field signals, fire control or-

der, section battel drill etc.

Types of communication media used, current and future trends are includ-

ing in the syllabus.

SOCIAL SERVICE

The cadets of the college undertake social

service activities to be conscious and sensitive to the

needs and problems of the country. The cadet’s ac-

tivities participated in AIDS Rally, Pulse Polio Rally,

Plantation Program, Anti Dowry Campaign, Anti-

Drug & Tabaco Drive, Environmental Awareness,

Active Citizenship, etc. They also extend their service

as and when required by the District Administration

and local NGOs.

They also organize Blood Donation camp as

a sign of social commitment. They also participate in

activities like Road Safety, Traffic awareness, Vigi-

lance awareness, Legal aid etc. in association with

the local NGOs and the District Administration.

Cadets participated in the “Swachh Bharat

Abhiyan” on 02/10/2017 in which they cleaned the

college campus, in front of college and rally from col-

lege to Barabati Stadium.
