Content is the presentation of information for a purpose to an audience through a channel in a form.

The definition has five components: Information Purpose Audience Form Channel

Information What ideas are you sending out? Information is the combination of the most important

ideas audience needs to know and the key details (evidence, explanations and examples)

that support those ideas.

InformationMain Idea: The one most important thing you want your audience to know.

Key Details: The examples, explanations and evidence that support your main idea.

Make this one complete sentence and you might be able to use it a the opening to your piece.

Make a bullet list of three to five key points that flesh out your main idea

Purpose Why are we doing this? What do we want our audience to think/do/feel? Content is most successful when we design it to

achieve a specific goal.

PurposeThink: what exactly do you want your audience to think?

Do: what exactly do you want your audience to do?

“THINK” often relates to your “MAIN IDEA” but goes beyond to tell your readers why your MAIN IDEA matter. it can be your beginning or ending.

What is the one thing you would like your readers to do? It can be your opening or a closing “call to action”.

Audience Who is our intended consumer for this content? To create content, we must consider audience

AudienceAudience: the person, type of person, or group of people you are writing to.

Question: the most important questions your audience will have about your topic.

Who are communication to? This guides your details, tone and purpose,

Anticipate readers, concerns and questions. you may not address them all, but consider them because they inform “KEY DETAILS” , “THINK” and “DO.”

Implement approval workflows and enable security such that only approved persons can publish to sites that are of importance to web.

Aim: Improve the quality of web sites

The dimensions of quality in this instance are accuracy, availability, discoverability, relevance, and timeliness of information

Quality - Actions

Accuracy: Enable an approval process to confirm the accuracy of the information

Availability: Ensure that the information is published, backed up, versioned, and restorable through automated Teamsite processes

Discoverability: Ensure that the information can be located through effective use of metadata driven searches

Relevance or important: Enable a process to ensure relevance through the use of approval processes

Timeliness of information: Simplify and automate the publication of web site information and enable removal of information through the use of automated “sunset” processes.
