Message from the Executive Director Contact Information A Client’s Story A woman called into our Client Services department in tears. Her employer cut back her hours recently and she was in a situation where she needed our help. She went on to explain that she was used to being a contributor of baby food and other products to Edmonton’s Food Bank herself and how she felt mortified to be in a position requesting food. We talked her through her concerns, explaining that our services are always available for those in need, and that there were others still donating, even when she was not currently able to do so. She felt very appreciative and assured by the end of her phone call. e following week she called aſter picking up her food hamper from a depot and thanked us again for the wonderful food and for helping her through her difficult time. “Thank you to Edmonton’s Food Bank, for your time and generous support!” Executive Director: Marjorie Bencz, CM Director of Operations: Mark Doram Warehouse: 11508 - 120 Street Edmonton, AB T5G 2Y2 Mailing Address: PO Box 62061 Edmonton, AB T5M 4B5 Phone: 780-425-2133 Fax: 780-426-1590 Connect With Us: @yegfoodbank Edmonton’s Food Bank edmontonsfoodbank.com DONATE SECURELY ONLINE Edmonton’s Food Bank provides year round service to those in need. For the past three years, the partnership between Edmonton’s Food Bank and Alberta Job Corps (AJC) has helped AJC trainees develop invaluable skills, experience, and confidence. Alberta Job Corps is a program of Alberta Human Services providing training and skills development. Here is what Alberta Job Corps supervisor, Corinne Jamaldin, says about this partnership:

“As a partner, the Food Bank offers AJC trainees the opportunity to gain technical employment skills and experience in the areas of office administration/customer service and warehousing. Trainees also learn soft employment skills, such as the importance of having a strong work ethic and a positive attitude; how to improve communication and time management skills; how to problem solve and address conflict appropriately; and how to contribute as a team player. The staff team at the Food Bank provide a professional atmosphere for AJC trainees to observe and practice these skills within a safe and supportive environment.

AJC trainees benefit tremendously from this partnership in several ways: the work is immeasurably meaningful; trainees can immediately see how the work they contribute positively impacts the community and Albertans in need; and as a result, trainees are motivated and feel a sense of accomplishment. In addition, AJC offers trainees workshops to develop woodworking and welding skills in our shop. AJC trainees get to practice and further develop these skills by working on building projects with many of our community partners. AJC trainees have successfully constructed benches and raised garden beds along with refinishing a large boardroom table for Edmonton’s Food Bank. This meaningful work, using newly developed skills that clearly benefit the community, goes a long way to instilling a sense of pride and accomplishment in our trainees; their self-esteem and confidence increase substantially.”

Edmonton’s Food Bank values and is grateful for this symbiotic relationship with Alberta Job Corps and we look forward to many more years of working together.
