The demonstration of applicability and potentials of developed approaches is a cornerstone of EMC²-Factory. Besides lab based prototypes in universities, three industry pilot applications will be developed in three different facilities belonging to the following transportation industries:
AutomotiveAerospace Rail
The aim is to show concrete applicability of EMC²-Factory vision on sustainable factories of the future.
DEMONSTRATORSKEY TOPICS/FIELDS OF ACTIONEnergy and resource efficient process technologies with specific focus on machining, joiningand assembly.
Innovative production planning and control systems and efficient process control devices, such as drives, actuators, and sensors.
Methods and tools for planning, optimization and life cycle evaluation to support the design and management of eco-factories (e.g. simulation, decision support tools).
Development of a novel holistic approach for eco-factories, integrating new as well as existing interdisciplinary solutions
PROJECT VISION“ Sustainable growth means building a more competitive low-carbon economy that makes efficient, sustainable use of resources and develops new green technologies and production methods.” (http://ec.europa.eu/europe2020/)
European manufacturers have to rethink their current ideas of factories, in order to reduce their impact on overall resource consumption and on the same time continue generating wealth and employment for Europe.
Automobiles, planes, or trains are a key to our global society and economy. Although these products are designed more and more for saving energy and resources, their manufacturing, which represent one of the most relevant industries in Europe, is still lacking proper measures for energy and resource efficiency.
EMC²-Factory project will develop a radically new paradigm for cost-effective, highly productive, energy-efficient and sustainable factories, and apply it to selected cases in the transportation industry.
