Front cover

For my cover I have used lots of the main conventions, I have used the left third, the bar code, a top and bottom strip, centred mast head. I tried to use as many of these for my cover which make the magazine cover more noticeable. Also I have used a quote from the band to give an idea of what the interview is about and to let my audience know that the band are making a serious come back.

I have also used stereotypical colours to represent the rock genre. Black was used for the background to create a dark effect and as it represents the chaos within the rock genre. I used red, yellow and pink as I got these colours as an inspiration from another magazine that relates to the rock genre. Also I used these to make the cover stand out and so that the cover is bright and appeals to my teenage audience. Also I have tried to make it appeal to a male audience by using an attractive female as the lead singer of the band this is known as the male gaze theory.

Contents page• For my contents page I

did not stay with the original idea of my flat plan as I had then changed my ideas as I thought that my original idea from my flat plan was going to be a bit too busy and spread out that is why I looked at the contents of Q magazine and decided to keep mine slightly simple as a lot of other magazines do this and I then thought that it would make the information easy to read and access.

My finished contents page keeps with the colour scheme of the front cover excluding the yellow as this would make the contents too bright but have used a capital ‘U’ in the corner of the page as the magazines logo and have used to same font as the front cover so that it is more recognisable. Also I have only used one main image for the contents so that it remains simple and does not become too busy as I noticed this was done in many other magazines. Also I have stuck with the theme of using different coloured circles that represent the different subgenres of rock.

Double page spreadMy double page spread started

with just red and white text I did this so that the page stays simple and does not start to resemble the front cover but still sticks with the home style of my magazine. The black background which is symbolic of the darkness of the rock genre and the chaos within the rockers society. And the red to represent how loud rock music is and can be but also to make the page a bit more lively so that it doesn’t look dull but mainly because I have used red on the front cover.

Quote from front cover used as the title as it will be recognised from the front cover.

As I continued with the double page spread I did decide to make the article resemble the front cover but then decided to stick with keeping the article red and white as I thought it made the article too busy and therefore it might make the reader feel a bit dizzy after looking at the page for some time.

Pink text used as an experiment to see what the article would look like but I then changed my mind as it looked too busy.

My finished article has been kept simple so that it is easy to read. All in all I believe it was a sensible idea to leave the article simple and do not regret this as I had to experiment with the style of the article. Sticking with just red and white text stays with the theme of the front cover and then can still appeal to a male audience as it does not have pink within the colour scheme and therefore does not make it very feminine.
