Advantages of New Construction Drying

CONTROLLING THE MOISTURE
The amount of moisture in buildings during new construction is MASSIVE. Concrete Drywall Fire proofing Humidity
Condensation– Winter– Spring– Fall
[ 3 ]
FIREPROOFING
Sprayed fireproofing compounds are tough to dry due to substantial water content when applied. When relative humidity inside closed structures prevents drying, ATI can help.
Sprayed fireproofing can be dried in as little as one week.
Interiors can be closed off without the danger of moisture-related problems such as the formation of mold and mildew inside walls.
[ 4 ]
CONCRETE
Slow drying concrete slabs often create delays in the overall schedule due to flooring material specs that cannot be met.
Large amounts of water can get trapped in concrete block walls. This trapped moisture will eventually show up in the form of blistering paint and wall coverings.

ENGINEERED WOOD
Hardwood flooring and millwork will absorb moisture from the air and from a wet slab. Warping and bending will result if the moisture is not removed before installation.

BASIC GROUPS OF MATERIALS
VCT TILEVINYL GOODS
RESILIENT FLOORING
Moisture-sensitive adhesives used to install VCT tile and fiber-backed carpet are often compromised when the concrete slab is still wet. This moisture may lead to early failure of flooring materials.

BENEFITS OF DRYING
IMPROVES WORK SCHEDULES
REDUCES COSTS
REDUCES LIABILITY
Waiting for materials to dry
Avoid expensive budget over-runs
Scheduling: Puts time on your side
Mold Defects
[ 10 ]
HELPING PREVENT COSTLY:
CALLBACKSFraming and drywall that is dry before finishing will reduce or eliminate cracks, settling, leaks, mold, and expensive call-backs for repairs. Moisture content varies with the
geographic location, temperature and humidity. However, in no case should walls be sealed up with a wood moisture content of 16% or greater since this will create a condition for surface molds to grow.

PSYCHROMETRICS
The science and practice associated with atmospheric air mixtures, their evaluation, control and effect on materials and comfort.
Commonly used variables are temperature, relative humidity, and dewpoint temperature.
Dewpoint can be determined if at least two of the psychrometric variables are identified.
[ 12 ]
PSYCHROMETRICS
Relative Humidity: A measure of the water in a given air sample, relative to its ability to hold moisture at that temperature.
Warm air holds more moisture than cold air. 100% RH = Dewpoint (Saturation). Dewpoint: Water vapor will condense on
surfaces when the dry bulb temperature falls below the dewpoint or saturation temperature.
[ 13 ]
PSYCHROMETRICS
Humidity: The more moisture in the air, the more it weighs. If the weight is too great, the moisture in the materials will NOT evaporate.
When air becomes too saturated, it can cause secondary damage to the other areas in the structure.
The higher the RH the higher the dew point. The key to drying wet materials is lowering
the dewpoint of the air and the materials.

HEAT VS. DEHUMIDIFICATION
…does not decrease moisture content but does increase the ability of air to hold moisture.
…decreases RH but does not change the dewpoint.
…makes it difficult to maintain a proper dewpoint spread with heaters only.
…may damage coatings and produce uncomfortable work environments.
…is very important for moisture movement but…
…too much heat may push moisture deeper into the materials.
…hot moves to cold and can cause condensation issues.

HISTORY OF DESICCANTDEHUMIDIFICATION
Developed for commercial use for the U.S. Navy to keep the cargo holds of ships dry during WWII.
Honeycomb rotors designed in the 1950s by U.S. Navy Commander Oliver Colvin and Carl Munters.
Today, dehumidification is an important process used in new construction.
High-tech desiccant dehumidifiers have revolutionized the construction industry.
[ 17 ]
HOW DESICCANT DEHUMIDIFICATION WORKS?
High volume desiccant dehumidifiers
exhaust extremely dry air into the
construction areas.

The dry air lowers the
vapor pressure and dew point of the building air, causing moisture in materials to pass from levels of high pressure
to low pressure.

COST TO DRY?
A 5,500 cfm dehumidifier, in an
insulated cabinet with both gas and electric
reactivation costs about $60,000.00, plus tax
and shipping
A 4,500 cfm dehumidifier rents for about $3,600/month

THE ATI ADVANTAGE
› 300,000 square feet of operational facilities throughout the United States.
› The Catastrophe Team has personnel, supplies and equipment strategically placed throughout the U.S. to ensure a quick response time to your disaster.
› Each year we complete over 7,500 projects throughout the U.S. There is no project too large or too small to where ATI cannot assist you in your loss.
› To date, we’ve never had to turn down a job due to a lack of resources, supplies, equipment or personnel.
› Unparallel response times following an emergency.
› Each project is assigned full time support and staff and an initial scope of work with project budgetary numbers are given to the client. The main difference between us and our competition is that we want to expeditiously assist you and spend as little of your money as possible.

› The most cost effective and cost conscious company in the industry
› Our 11 regional branch offices enable us to respond quickly.
› The 600 full time employees that we have give us the ability to bring out full equipped and trained employees. You are much less likely to see temporary workers on your project if you hire ATI.
› Family owned and operated means that the service and end product are the same throughout the company, it’s not a franchise. How many other companies will have the owner of the restoration company on-site at your disaster project?
› The utilization of state of the art technology and equipment enables us to complete your project using the most cost effective measures available in the industry.
