Construction Youth Trust

We are currently seeking Industry Professionals to partake in the event:

· Construction and Fit Out Companies · Design · · Cost Consultants · Project Management Practices ·

Sub-Contractors · Suppliers · Architects ·

No previous Boxing Experience is required; however you will need to have a reasonable level of fitness and no pre-existing health issues.

The professionally organised event will involve assisted training and bouts will be based upon like for like ability, age and weight category. Bouts will consist of 3x2 minute rounds head guards will be optional.

Limited spaces are available so apply early to guarantee your involvement and a boxing bout. Boxers will be asked to name their own charity and will be required to organise this sponsorship.

about Construction Youth Trust

Construction Youth Trust is a registered charity working with young people to help them access training, education and employment opportunities in construction.

Construction Youth Trust supports young people whose journey to work can be challenging due to barriers relating to their financial circumstances, lack of awareness of opportunities, low self-esteem, gender or ethnicity.

We support young people’s journey to work through an integrated service that enables young people to:

• Raise their industry awareness and aspirations

• Increase their confidence

• Obtain construction and employability skills

• Acquire experience in the industry

• Receive financial support, career advice and guidance and mentoring

• Access training and employment opportunities

The Trust achieves its goals by undertaking a number of programmes ranging from individual bursaries to construction skills courses, and from work placement schemes to guidance sessions.

By helping individuals to gain training and employment the Trust’s work effectively tackles social exclusion and related disadvantage.

The Trust is uniquely placed to help individuals and communities by delivering local programmes and drawing on wide-ranging contacts from within the UK construction industry.

The charity’s Trustee body is made up of senior figures within the sector, and the Trust’s staffs have solid expertise in working with young people and their communities.

Michael Watson MBE – Event PatronMichael Watson MBE, the former Commonwealth Middleweight champion, whose career was tragically cut short.

In 1991 he had a world title fight with Chris Eubank - the people’s champion against the guy we love to hate. Eubank retained his belt, but it was one of the most controversial decisions in British boxing history. The rematch was the biggest super middleweight title fight British boxing had ever seen.

Tragically, in the eleventh round, Watson caught his neck on the back of the ropes after taking an uppercut from Eubank. He collapsed and suffered serious brain damage which left him paralysed.

After years of intensive therapy, and with the same determination and strength of spirit that he showed in the ring, Michael Watson has made a remarkable recovery and won the biggest fight of all - the fight for his life. This is a testament to why Michael Watson was, is, and always will be ‘the people’s champion’.

Michael Watson had 26 wins, 4 losses and 2 draws as a boxer, with 21 wins by knockout.

Ambrose Mendy – Event Host Ambrose is currently head of sport and intellectual property rights (IPR) at Mel Goldberg Law - The UK’s Leading Sports Law firm. He is the exclusive advisor to Olympic Boxing Gold Medallist and Current WBC (Silver) Champion, James DeGale MBE, and an advisor to a number of top footballers that include Jermaine Defoe amongst others. He is committed to mentoring the next generation of sports agents while also kee-ping busy as a management consultant for 5 African football federations.

After a youth spell with West Ham Ambrose Mendy came to prominence when by chance he became a football agent for long time friend and England interna-tional, Laurie Cunningham. Ambrose negotiated a deal that would make Laurie the first man to play for both Manchester United and Spanish giants Real Madrid (a path later followed by David Beckham & Cristiano Ronaldo)

After also acting as a scout for United he added boxing promotion to his repertoire on his way to becoming a household name as a sports agent. All the while negotiating major sponsorships and endorsement packages, not to mention record breaking fight promo-tion and TV deals.
