Jerry Falwell Born on August 11, 1933, in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Died on May 15, 2007.
Religious leader, political activist, and television evangelist.
Founder of the Moral Majority
Protestant evangelist, he studied engineering, and then turned to religious studies after a conversion. In 1956 he founded a Baptist church in Lynchburg and later launched an extremely popular television programme, ‘The Old-Time Gospel Hour’, and established Liberty Baptist College. From 1979 his Moral Majority became a political force for advancing the social agenda of the religious right. His writings include Listen, America! (1980) and Wisdom for Living (1984).

• In 2004, Falwell revived the Moral Majority name for a new organization, the Moral Majority Coalition.

• Falwell, was committed to leading the organization for four years, but died on May 15, 2007.
