ENERGY CONSERVATION AND ITS UTILITY……..!!!!
Energy conservation refers to
reducing energy consumption through
using less of an energy service. Energy
conservation differs from
efficient energy use, which refers to
using less energy for a constant service.
Enacted in October 2001.
Become effective from 1st march
2002.
Bureau of Energy Efficiency
operationalized from march 2002.
Energy Conservation
Act.
*TYPES OF ENERGY
ENERGY CAN BROADLY DIVIDED INTO 2 CATEGORIES:
1.Renewable Energy.
2.Non-Renewable Energy.
*
Non renewable energy
cannot be generated
again and again.
E.g. Energy generated
from combustion of
fossil fuels, energy
from coal and gas etc.
RENEWABLE ENERGY:
Renewable energy can be
generated continuously
practically with out delay
of source like
*Solar energy
*Wind energy
*Geothermal energy
*Hydro energy
*Biomass
*Tidal
*SOLAR POWER
*Solar power is a promising, renewable energy
resource than can be turned into electricity, and it
is used in many toys and even home heating.
WIND ENERGY
Wind power is increasingly being used as a clean source of renewable energy.
Turbines harvest wind on wind farms and generate electricity.
*Why To conserve it……???
We have limited resources available on earth.
Our demands are continuously increasing day
by day.
It is possible that someday most of the non-
renewable resources will be exhausted and we
will have to switch over to alternate energy.
We save our money
when we save energy.
We reduce pollution
when we save energy.
We save our energy
when we save energy.
*Ways to conserve energy……!!
Energy will be conserved in
many appliances like
1.Home appliances.
2.Industries.
3.Work places and so on……..!!
As we seen in home
appliances…..!!
There are so many
ways like lightning,
cooling, heating,
water heating, etc.,
In lightning,
how to
conserve
energy….!
Watts Light Cost Life No of Units
Lumens Rs. Hours hrs/day /Year
Bulb 60 700 10 1000 4 88
CFL 15 700 200 7000 4 22
The job of your home air
conditioner is move heat
from inside your home to
the outside, thereby
cooling you and your
home. Air
conditioners blow
cool air into your home by
pulling the heat out of
that air. The air is cooled
by blowing it over a set of
cold pipes called an
evaporator coil.
* If we seen in cooling, More than using A.C we can use
whole house fan…!
* Instead of air-conditioning, consider installing a
whole-house fan. Whole-house fans work in many
climates and help cool your home by pulling cool
air through the house and exhausting warm air
through the attic. Use the fan to cool down and
your home will stay cooler through the hotter
times of the day without using the fan.
In Industries, the energy can
be utilized in so many ways
like in
1. Thermal utilities.
2. Electrical utilities.
*
A boiler is water containing vessel
which transfers heat from a fuel source
(oil, gas, coal) into steam which is
piped to a point where it can be used
to run production equipment, to
sterilize, provide heat, to steam-clean,
etc.
• Preheat combustion air with waste
heat
• Inspect oil heaters for proper oil
temperature.
• Use boiler blow down to help warm
the back-up boiler.
• Recycle steam condensate.
* Insulation:
It slows heat losses
from a building, either
by using bulky,
lightweight materials
such as glass-fiber or
wool between framing
elements, and
sometimes by using
reflective materials to
reflect heat back into
the building.
*As in Electrical
utilities…..!!
There are
Motors, Fans, Drivers,
Blowers, Pumps etc
Blowers:
• Minimize blower inlet
and outlet obstructions.
• Clean screens and
filters regularly.
• Minimize blower
speed.
• Use low-slip or no-slip
belts.
• Check belt tension
regularly.
Fans:
• Use smooth, well-
rounded air inlet cones
for fan air intakes.
• Avoid poor flow
distribution at the fan
inlet.
• Minimize fan inlet and
outlet obstructions.
• Clean screens, filters,
and fan blades
regularly.
RECYCLE - compositing waste materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials.
Turn off all electronic devices that are not in use. Not only turn them off but try to remember to unplug them. You will be surprised how much you will save with this simple step!
Replace old light bulbs with energy saving fluorescent bulbs. They may cost more, but will save you much more in the long run.
